Lost in the shuffle of the last two days is Providence firing Keno Davis- after 3 years and now they will pay him a buyout with 5 years left on his contract. They didn't even give Davis a chance to get more than 2 years of full recruiting in. Who the hell do they think they are now?

Remember how Davis was the "next big thing?" Not so much

Adam Zagoria's report for replacements

Names in the mix include Temple coach Fran Dunphy, Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins, Fairfield coach Ed Cooley, Duquesne coach Ron Everhart, former Providence and current Pitt assistant Pat Skerry and Arizona State head coach Herb Sendek, a Rick Pitino assistant on the 1987 Providence Final Four team.

Uh, Dunphy? No way is he leaving Philly. Everhart? Maybe for the paycheck. Go ahead Fryers (spelling intentional). Hire Everhart. That will give you another 4 years of mediocrity.

Four years of mediocrity would be a huge upgrade.

There is very little hope for the bottom of the BE.

Think Davis will go back to his comfort level at Drake?

Idk, it doesn't seem like a career ending firing. I often wonder why most coaches fall so hard down the ranks from a firing. Look at Billy G, he can't find a job. For a while there, no one wanted Lavin. Same with Calipari. It seems they must go into 3-4 year hiatus before the stink wears off and they appear somehow fresh again.

Billy G's got some serious personal issues. Lavin tanked at UCLA. People wondered how that was even possible.

I think Keno would be a good replacement for whoever moves on in the A-10 this year.

Maybe Dookcane and the Fryers work a trade.

Sweet 16s weren't good enough at UCLA - that's why Lavin was fired. He's perfect for a program like St. John's that could use a flash-in-the-pan run to really become relevant again. I wonder if SJU would have been as good with their senior class had they given Norm Roberts one more season.

20 loss seasons weren't cool either.

I think Billy G could end up at Texas Tech.

As someone who thinks that it sucks to be in the middle of the pack in the Big East, I definitely concur with that.

The Big East simply locks Providence into too tough of a schedule.

Of course, the alums of Providence would never allow a conference demotion to occur, even though it could be a good thing.

Hopefully Keno Davis ends up at another Drake(?)-like job after getting paid well by the Big East for a while.
