I heard on the radio Wed. that the last four auto qual. will play, and that the winners will both face 1 seeds. But the four at larges will play and the 2 winners will play a 5 or 6 seed. How come they don't play a 1 seed ? This whole deal seems effed up to me. Just take the worst eight teams, and the four winners play the one's.

It's not that simple. The "last four in" are usually middling big 6 teams that have caused some waves over the course of the season, but they are still much better teams than the auto-bid teams from low conferences. It wouldn't be fair to the 1 seeds to have to play a Georgia or Clemson instead of the usual Middle Tennessee State.

How can justify to the 1 seed that they have to play a 12 seed in the first round? That's not fair to the one seed.

Sorry Jumpy...didn't see your response...but yes, what he said.

My point is why not take the worst 8 teams, be they auto bid or at large, have them play, and the winners play the ones.

Speaking of play-in games, I believe today's Georgia vs. Alabama game is a play-in game with the loser going to the NIT and not hogging another berth from a deserving smaller conference team (such as the A10).

Personally, I never felt the playin game was fair to the 16s. I would have all of the "first round" games include at large teams with 11 or 12 seeds.

What the new format does do is make the seeding and matchups more complicated, with limitations on teams from the same conference meeting up, distance and travel for the first round teams, etc,

JTG should be banned for making such a stupid post about the winners playing the 1s.

And again...the 1 plays the 16...that's the way is should be. Your scenario doesn't guarantee that.

Completely agree. They try to say it's the "Opening Round" game...they aren't fooling anyone.
