Top seed UAB goes down...inexplicably losing to East Carolina.

Their at large hopes are also most likely toast.

Other than the A-10 and Mountain West...the midmajor conferences are really sucking at life right now as far as cementing at large bids.

dozens of people packed utep's arena for the two quarterfinal games this afternoon. the closest school to el paso outside of utep is still over 600 miles away.

uab was so excited that they finished in first place this past saturday that they forgot to show up for their game today. their biggest case for a bid was that they were an outright first place finisher with a solid rpi, and that they had only one stinko loss. the latter is no longer true.

i think memphis is talented, but not very good. i was sure southern miss would get them. a three point shot would have tied the game, but it went in after time expired. memphis faces a much improved, but still poor east carolina team tomorrow.

the tournament is at utep, and they're hard to beat at home, so they may win the whole thing too. uab still has a shot, but they're really going to be sweating.
