at the end of the day, it won't happen because not enough current university presidents will want it, but it is slowly trending that way. i think i'll see it in my lifetime.

i had to chuckle at this line...

Emmert stopped short of endorsing a playoff, saying that the NCAA also sees value in the bowl system, particularly the way it expands opportunities for athletes to participate in postseason play.

emmert never stopped short of endorsing a playoff before he was named ncaa president. i guess that now that he's president, he must be more political. he's VERY pro playoff, and he wants the ncaa and not the bcs to run it, which is how it should be.

How soon do you think it could happen? I would imagine when a playoff starts, it would be a small number - say 4 teams. I guess you rotate the bowl sites. The demand will be through the roof and I believe that eventually it will grow to 8.

Regardless, December and January madness would be nuts

honestly, i think they'll renew the bcs contract for another four year cycle, and then maybe we'll see it after that. that's just a guess, though. i have no real proof that it will work out that way. honestly, i think it will take longer than that. but, in my lifetime, possibly within the next twenty years when all the current have gone and new ones are in place, i think we'll see it.

when they institute it, i honestly believe it will be a sixteen team playoff with all eleven conference champions getting automatic bids. if the ncaa run it and not the bcs, all the conferences will be tied in one way or another. they pretty much have to be.

i also think it would start in mid december and end the first weekend of january.
