Just underway at Richmond Coliseum. Top 4 seeds including #2 ODU have 1st round byes. Tomorrow ODU plays winner of Northeastern/Delaware which is at 6 est tonight. This could potentially be a 3 bid league is someone other than George Mason or ODU wins this tourney.

if this plays out the way it is seeded, the semifinals should be great.

i think old dominion and george mason are in regardless, but i wouldn't be at all surprised if vcu ended up winning it. it's not on their home court, but it is in their home city.

having said that, gmu and odu blew their doors off at home, but those werer vcu's only two home losses.

This is definitely a very solid league. VCU and Drexel both choked during conference play or they would still be in bubble talks. VCU definitely has the athleticism to beat teams but they seem to have a low basketball IQ. Drexel beat Louisville so they have shown flashes of talent.

The top two should go sweet 16 and possibly elite 8 depending on match-ups. ODU owned the A-10 this year.

I thought VCU had a good chance after their win at Wichita State, and even thought of scenarios where the Colonial got 4 teams in. Needless to say that's not happening after the Rams faded at the end of conference play.

Old Dominion leads Delaware by 10 with the few minutes remaining. Streaming on ESPN3.

ODU moves on with a 59-50 win, and will play the winner of William & Mary/Hofstra tomorrow.

VCU playing well today in front of their hometown crowd. Up 14 at half on G Mason. VCU has hit 9 3's in the 1st half.

Not good for Richmond and other bubble teams.

VCU is still up 11 with 13 minutes left.

The CAA tournament has been fun to watch. It is kind of like the MVC was a couple years ago when they got multiple bids- just a lot of very solid teams.

If Old Dominion wins the whole thing, the CAA could still only be a 2-bid league. Should VCU win tomorrow they're definitely a 3-bid league as George Mason and Old Dominion both have enough of a body of work to make the field.

Agreed. VCU probably isn't quite an at large, but ODU and George Mason are pretty much locks. A VCU win tomorrow likely steals a bid from someone else

every game that jimmy dykes calls during championship week, he makes it a point to say this about one or both of the teams in the game...

"this is a team that you DO NOT want to see in march."

for starters, we're running out of teams that, in his opinion, you WOULD want to see.

secondly, he's mostly talking about tournament teams. if you're seeing them in march, then it means you yourself are a tournament team. so, you DO want to see those teams. i'm not saying that some teams are easier to beat than others, but at the end of the day 48 of the 68 teams in the tournament are really good. there are 345 teams, and the best 48 are in the tournament.

i really want to take this to the next level...

"Boy, now THERE is a team you DO NOT want to see in the Final Four."

....uhhh, i'd be thrilled to death to see anyone in the final four.

add old dominion to the long list of teams that jimmy dykes says you do not want to see in the ncaa tournament.

ODU looked like world beaters, and it's still a 12 point game, but this has been entertaining. CAA is a good conference this year.

Can we trade LaSalle and Fordham for VCU, and Old Dominion?

It's down to 7 - ODU has gone scoreless on their last 9 trips down the court.

Meanwhile, SPC is now up 47-36 on Iona with 6:34 to play. The power of bacon will not be denied.

They have a really nice crowd there too. Makes you wonder if Richmond regrets leaving. Maybe we could take the top 5 or 6 from each and make a new conference.

Amen to that! These are two programs with the arrow pointing up, and would be great fits to the A10. What an exciting game

They really play some good basketball in the CAA. Great run by VCU to make this a game

Richmond is blackballed by most of the CAA fans for their exit; they wouldn't even let them play in the 2001 CAA Tournament when they were getting ready to leave.

That said, they've gotten 2 at-large bids during their time in the A-10; there's no guarantee they would have accomplished as much or more had they stayed. They've done more than Virginia Tech did in their brief A-10 tenure.

Saint Peter's ticket is now punched - and now get set to add Old Dominion to the list.

I'm probably gonna have ODU in my sweet 16 depending on matchups.

saint peter's is on their way to dayton!!!!

nice win by old dominion. the unique thing about the odu vs vcu rivalry is that it seems as though the visiting team wins most of the time.

old dominion is tough as nails. they are a very physical team on defense, and they pass the ball well on offense. clearly a tournament caliber team. i wouldn't be surprised if they were wearing white jerseys in their first game...meaning that they're the better seeded team.

we played them pretty tough back in november. at that time, being ranked #18 seemed a long long long way away.

It's amazing nobody has plucked the coach(not even sure what his name is off the top of my head) from ODU. Wonder if UD would consider him if Gregory left as I believe UD got Purnell from ODU.

Blaine Taylor has coached for 10 years at ODU - he may be one of the few coaches who realizes he has it good at ODU as opposed to moving on to another big-time job. I don't think he wants to wind up like either Todd Lickliter (fired at Iowa) or Keno Davis (hot seat at Providence).
