WTF? Who thought that was a good idea? More importantly, why did the guys not say no? Very disappointed in the men's swimteam.

My only regret with that video, was they picked a shitty winter day where the campus did not look it's finest.
Honestly, I think it's kind of a neat little project they did, and while there are things I would have changed, it's not the worst thing ever done by far.
If they are proud of it, then so be it and good for them. As long as they are having fun, who are we to judge?

Yea right you danced around campus like that all the time.
Seriously, I spent a lot of time in that Brockman TV studio. A lot. I will try to look at this objectively. Someone worked hard setting that whole thing up, but I would not have been a part of that. I also will elect not to ever show that to anyone as I am generally proud of being a Xavier grad. Tu 4 MVP, could you imagine if I had shown that at my red carpet premiere party?
Also, Xavier desperately needs more hot girls. When there are more dudes in speedos than hot chicks in your video, you either wrote it wrong or casted it wrong. Think about how much more favorably we'd have viewed that video if the speedo guys were replaced with:

I don't get it. What was that? Is this something students are doing at all different colleges? And why was there not a single person in the video that could dance? Even the dance team members. Did they ask for the 5 worst dancers on the dance team? And what was up with that one kid tackling that other kid at the 2 min mark? Was that necessary? How pissed were the janitors? That was a lot of confetti. Interesting video to say the least.
I remember that. God that was a sh*t show. I wore a white linen suit for god-sakes. Can you get more latin than that?
No doubt you looked pretty freakin Rican that night.
That was a great party. Didnt someone steal the carpet after everyone got really drunk?
Yes, and that SOMEBODY should feel ashamed of himself for getting me all worked up like that. It's a miracle (and very much by the grace of Officer Whatshisname) that I didn't have to go to jail that night. Either way, it was fun while it lasted. And Lucho I still have the video and am waiting until it's star is finally in office to put it on Barstool.com and several other sites, unless of course said star is willing to put a worthy offer on the table. Actually, it was supposed to go on YouTube but said star was so vehemently against it that I decided not to. I never understood why because I thought it was the proudest thing he's ever done.
As far as the video, I'm reminded that there were a lot of really talented people in my classes back then, but there was not as much creativity as I would've liked. What you get is a video of people dancing. No one else was willing to push the envelope, and I think that's why one of the teachers really liked me and the other really didn't.

Oh what the hell is the big deal everyone? Although, I always felt there was quite a chasm in the Xavier student body. A lot liked to drink and a lot (for lack of a better term) were, "goody two shoes." I would imagine most of these kids fit in the latter group.

Frankly if they are having fun I don't care if it is slightly fruity or dorky. It does sort of show the school has a feeling of community. There are a lot of schools where this couldn't happen.

I'm not against students doing this sort of thing. It could be a cool project, a great way to get involved and meet people, and the bonus that viral videos can really boost the school's image if it's 1) somewhat original and 2) they actually make the school look good. They failed on both counts.

PS- What’s up with everyone looking backwards the whole time? Hey losers maybe plan out your route and rehearse a little bit first? Seriously Xavier nerds act like you’ve filmed a fucking lip dub video before."

I think that's my biggest problem. It's really not well done. There are multiple people that don't even know the words. That should be the first requirement for being in a "lip dub" video.

Notice they never specify the rank or name the organization providing the ranking, just that it's national. I get offers all the time to have my name added to a 'best of' list, if I pay a fee, although I would hope the team has too much pride to buy into that kind of scheme. The list could be 10,000 teams long and X could be ranked #10,000. Or it could be 200 teams long and have competition standards that kicks teams out if they aren't competitive.
Now, I give them a certain amount of credit for dressing up in those outfits and performing in front of groups, especially when they are generally met with derision. It takes a lot of self-confidence to follow your passion in the face of opposition. Hurrah for them!
On the other hand...
I'll be kind and say I'm generally not impressed with the choreography, even if it were properly executed.

1) I loved seeing the Television Studio again. I spent A LOT of time there.
2) This wasn't easy to put together. Getting that many people to do what you need them to do can be well-nigh impossible. I shot a 2 minute film with 4 friends with a one minute take that took four hours because they kept f'ing up their lines. Working with non-actors is a bitch. These people did this in one take.
3) Were there things I would have done differently? Yes. Song especially. That said they are playing on the current zeitgeist so fine.
3) It looked like a lot of fun to make despite how dorky it seems.
4) Could any of you have done any better? Seriously? Do any one of you have the charisma to pull together a large group of people and get them on board for this. Could you have back then? Plus they are just learning anyway.
5) These are your XU brethren. As such they deserve some support. Imagine if you made this only to have an entire message board take a big dump on it.
6) I realize most of you are just poking fun, but those of you who are really offended need to lighten up.

First off, the improvement in the dance team over the last ten years has been substantial. However....
The dance team website indicates the team is currently ranked 5th nationally. That is based on their ranking within their competition category and division based on enrollment.
Anyone care to guess how many teams compete in their category/division?
It's ludicrous to call that team "ranked 5th nationally".

Also, I can only imagine the work behind that video. I'm guessing this was the 'dance' that Coach MAck said he got suckered into on his Twitter, and here I thought it was the ESPN 'dance' commerical.

I agree with pretty much all of this, having also been an electric media guy. As for number 4, I'd like to think that I could, but I can undoubtably say the motivation will never be there so we'll call it a wash. Yea, my posts in this thread are more sarcastic than anything. I have no problems whatsoever with nerds. They're easy to get along with usually and are quite helpful, knowledgeable and often pretty funny. But from the other end of the spectrum, I think a lot of kids looking for a college experience sans the spontaneous High School Musical breakouts might be scared away by such a video. I have to say, I don't agree. I mean don't get me wrong, there is definitely a nerdy aspect of posting on a message board routinely to kill the long hours of the day, but I think I still reserve the right to make fun of that video. But nerdy isn't even the word I'd use to describe the video, so I think this is drifting away from the point. I would describe the video more as "fruity," which I think in a comical way, they were sort of going for (as a parody on Glee and that kind of thing.) So again, I admire the work that went into it, but it is still more than fair game for making fun of.

Blob, I'm only a few years removed from college and am the oldest of my siblings. Sadly, I know almost only college kids and kids who still act like college kids. I will say that I've never tended to surround myself with the most "freakishly motivated and self-aware" individuals, but Xavier certainly had its share. All in all, I can promise you the shenanigans have not dropped off one bit. Truthfully, I could see that video being made when I was there by people I hung out with every day in class. But I can also say that I would have OPENLY made fun of it then, with no anonymity, and that very few of the people I "wasted my college experience" with would have participated. Many of my friends have put this on facebook with very funny comments. That would have been the same three years ago.
But I don't want to come off like I'm taking it seriously or anything. I think whoever made it did so knowing it was going to get made fun of (at least I hope), and that doesn't change the fact that it was well-made by some people sitting in the same studio I was in just a few years ago.

I'll give them credit for organizing something like this. That many people, it can't be all that easy. I think. Hell I don't know. I wouldn't want to try to put something like that together. It would be like organizing a bus trip to Duquesne and making sure Snipe doesn't oversleep while everyone is on the bus waiting to get back to Cincinnati. Major logistics nightmare.
Having said that, it's nice to know that after graduating 17 years ago, I can rest easy knowing there are still ugly chicks, fat chicks, and dorky dudes at that place. Some things never change.
I wanted a dramatic entrance.
No one who posts on a basketball message board and participates in a mock tournament featuring other message board participants who have been ranked solely by their "reputation" should ever, ever make fun of anyone making a video like this.
We are all nerds. We just have different areas of nerdom.
I made the Sweet 16!
I see your point.
It looks like the kids had fun. I don't even mind if they rush the court now and again. My favorite threads are when old nerds on message boards debate when the proper time for intoxicated college students can and cannot rush the court.

I see what you are saying. But you are weird. Then again, so am I.

I remember two rushing the court moments from college.
One where friends of mine all said they were going to rush the court after beating some meaningless team. When the buzzer sounded all my friends except one stayed in their seats. My one friend Mike ran out onto the court by himself. Security had an easy time going to get him.
And my senior year we beat GW in our last game. A bunch of us rushed the court. I jumped on TJ Johnson. It was epic, because TJ had no idea what I was doing.
College kids are dorks. Guys who graduated from college are just older dorks.

It took me a while to formulate my thoughts. I recognize that many of us would not have participated - I know I would not. However, I have to applaud the kids who put this on. You cannot help to feel their spirit and love for Xavier. We express it through this message board. They filmed it to a dance tune. 2 thumbs up!

I am truly surprised how negative people are being about this. It looks like they had fun doing this and put some effort into it. If a bunch of college kids want to dance and be stupid/goofy, good for them.
I certainly did a lot dumber and more embarrasing things during my college and post-college years. I would have not had problem participating in such a video and probably would have danced a lot worse and messed up the lip sync even more.
It takes a lot more balls to do something like that and paste it all over the internet than it does to tear it apart.
Great job to those kids. They certainly are passionate and love their school and aren't afraid to show it....

I have a lot to say about the video. I would not like to get neg repped into oblivion though so I will just say that it looked like a lot of hard work.

Here is a similar video from Emerson College, a communications and performing arts college in Boston. Yes, these kids have the looks and chops to pull off a better video than XU, but they still look dorky. Hot chicks all over this one IMO. Weird creepy guys too, unfortunately.
Overall, though, I'd give this one 8.5 out of 10.

I don't know that I think that the chicks in this video were particularly hot. They are probably hot for chicks in Massachusetts, but not most other places.
Overall production quality was definitely better though.

I agree with everything you said, but I don't think people are being negative really. If you do a "stupid/goofy dance" you are subject to some jabs. I'm sure they wouldn't have done it if they really cared about people making fun of it. It's great that they worked hard on something and put it together, but again, it's still fair game to make fun of. It's on the freaking internet. People are allowed to disagree with our posts and give each other shit here, why not on YouTube?

That barstool site is the same one that posted the video of the kid getting kicked out of the butler game. That site seems to be very anti-Xavier. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.

I know in the case of the "Butler Kick Out," the video was sent in to them. It's the same way with the Lipdub video. They just post what they get.

True. However, the comments from the video poster on the "Butler Kick Out" was highly highly anti-X

RosieMuskie, why do you have such a problem with college kids having fun & feel compelled to call it a waste of time on threads you started on both XU boards? Who's wasting so much time in PA? Get a life.

I don't have a problem with college kids making videos. But, the aforementioned videos should be made by hot college chicks and they should be mailed to me ASAP.

I didn't start the thread on this board.
On the "other" board I never said I had a problem, just that I wish some students would show a little more passion for our basketball program instead of things like this. I intended it to be more of a poke at the poor student section rather than the Lipdub.
I am a college kid, and know multiple people in this video. One of them is actually my roommate, and even he admitted that it was lame and dumb. It's pretty sad when someone who works at the TV studio admits this himself. I'm entitled to my opinion, and it's not like I'm some 50 year old guy making fun of college kids.
Also, a lot of students who read this board would know who I am from the my screen name-it's not like I'm trying to hide behind my computer.
On that note, I'm going to go out, have some fun, just like the people in this video, and enjoy my weekend. Go X and smoke UDump!

Blob, I'm only a few years removed from college and am the oldest of my siblings. Sadly, I know almost only college kids and kids who still act like college kids. I will say that I've never tended to surround myself with the most "freakishly motivated and self-aware" individuals, but Xavier certainly had its share.
