So. I'm driving down I71 listening to the Cryer post game show. There is no boundary to their madness. Quote Norm Grevey: "&rian Gregory now has an entire week to prepare for Chris Mack. Chalk up a W". And then, "3 wins, we're 20 and 9 and off the bubble." I'm laughing so hard that I have nothing to add. Back to the driving.

They would not be off the bubble but it would give them a very good shot at the NCAA tourney.

The bubble they were talking about was the NIT bubble, they want a chance to defend their Championship....they want to sell back to back NIT Championship coats....

They are on the bubble?

Maryland fans have the same delusion. They think that if they finish 5th or better in the ACC they make the dance.

Their best win this season is Penn State.

People are just crazy dumb, and then they are people form Dayton.

If Dayton wins the last three regular season games, they won't be "off" the bubble necessarily, but they'll probably be inside it. They'll be 22-9 with like 6 or 7 top 100 wins, 2 top 25 wins and no real bad losses. The RPI would likely be in the high 30s and the SOS in the 40s. That's a fairly strong resume. The bubble this year is bad, and there are more spots than ever available.

It's just a matter of going out and doing it. Looking at the numbers I think they need to win the next 5 games to feel good about a bid. Last three in the regular season, the home A10 tourney game (only a very slim chance of getting a bye, the Dukes would have to lose three more and URI two more) and the A10 quarterfinal game. Do that an I think they are in, because the quarterfinal game would be another top 100, maybe top 50 win. Lose one of the next three and they'd have to run the table in AC.

The margins of defeat in some of the A-10 games could really hurt Dayton. While losing to Duquesne on the road is not a bad loss, losing by 18 makes it more damaging. @ Richmond by 9, Rhode Island by 12, Cincy by 34, the fact that there's no 1 possession losses might make it tougher to get in.

One strange aspect of the schedule is that 4 teams had 5+ days to prepare for X: Rhode Island, Duquesne, Fordham and Dayton. Because of the Georgia game, Xavier hasn't had a stretch like that in conference this year.

That extra work hasn't giving teams a edge in anyway either. After tonight, Dayton will be the last "Lay-over Opponent" to slay.

Unless Dayton can leapfrog its way up the standings, they're in a difficult spot. Their numbers might be good, but the Selection Committee generally frowns on jumping over teams in a conference to select an at-large. URI's loss today does bring the Rams closer to the middle of the pack - they're 7-5 and in 5th place; UMass is 6-6 and in 9th place. Dayton is 7-6 and still stuck in 8th place pending the results of GW-La Salle and Bona-Richmond tonight. The Flyers could be as high as 6th at the end of the day or they could still be 8th if GW wins at La Salle (possible) and St. Bona wins at Richmond (unlikely).

Had the Flyers won at URI, they would own a tiebreaker for 5th and would at least have been in the running for a Top 4 finish. But when you're in 6th to 8th place in the A-10, forget it.

They can talk bubble all they want, but they aren't beating us. They are delusional about a lot of things, and guaranteeing a W is at the top of the list.

8 days off before the Xavier game is plenty of time for the flyer b-ball team to get sick w/ the flu or have food poisoning a couple of times this week.

ud should check the DU to see how much having a week to prepare of an X home game worked for them.

They've been preparing for 30 years to be better than Xavier....I'm just not sure how 8 more days will make a difference...expecially with an extreemly motivated team this week....

the title of this thread is redundant, UDump is just behind in so many ways and they're backpedaling faster than you can say NIT

Honestly the A10 right now will be getting 2 teams in the dance. The only way a 3rd team gets in is if someone other than Xavier or Temple wins the A10 tourney. There is no way ud will finish in the top 4 of the league, won't matter that they "might" have 20 wins. Not being a top 4 team in the league conference play will hurt them. So if ud wants to go to the Senior Prom and not the Junior Prom, they will have to win the A10 tourney.

The committee cares about good wins on the road. UD doesn't look great in that category.

And apparently, the committee does take into some account Pomeroy and Sagerin rankings (sort of leaked out last year). UD doesn't rank well on either.

Disagreed. IMO Dayton will have to win those three and be at least the semi-finals of the A-10 to feel comfortable.

Eight days to prepare, and they still can't beat us at their place.

I just got done reading the Dayton Daily news article about the game. I was really interested at the comments at the bottom of the article. I came across the most delutsional comment by someone named Swampy Meadow. He states the next year will be different becuase Gregory is a better coach than Mack. Um, I guess he has a different definition of better than most of us.

C'mon now, Gregory does have a NIT trophy on his resume.

Seriously though, UD fans have been resorting to the "Wait until next year!" line for about the last 15-20 years. All I can do at this point is just smile and chuckle because it's just sad.

even then i think they'll be highly uncomforatable.

there is a better chance of going 11-5 and being left out than there is to go 9-7 and be let in. if dayton wins out, 9-7 is the best they can do.

saint joe's got in as a 9-7 team in 2008, but the league was much stronger....and sju advanced to the championship game....and they had better wins.....and they BARELY got in.

if dayton doesn't win the conference tourney, i think that the only way for them to go to the ncaas is to buy tickets.

a home win over george mason....and nothing else. not good enough. not even close.

This just occurred to me. If, by miracle of miracles, dayton gets in, they most likely woud be in that "last 4 in, play in game" thing.

Meaning, dayton would get an NCAA tournament home game.

I HATE dayton.

So where were all the Cryer fans with their usual frantic traveling signals yesterday every time the fake Chris Wright touched the ball?

I guess that those blue and red tinted glassed are not motion activated.
