I have rarely ever been to UD Pride but I happened over there today. Check out the article Swampy wrote. He compares UD's down year to the down years Butler, Gonzaga, and Michigan State are having. The major difference between UD and those schools? The other 3 are usually up. This isnt a down year for UD, its the norm. It is a down year for the other 3. I love how he compares them to those schools as in look, its okay that we arent doing so hot this year, either is Gonzaga, Mich St, or Butler, we are just like them. That dude is terrible.

That guy is crazy. All of those programs won as many games if not more games in the NCAA tournament last year than Dayton has won in the NCAA tournament over the last twenty years combined. To compare Dayton to those three programs is like comparing Kathy Bates to Kathy Ireland.

That's a great attitude. "Oh well we suck this year but so do they". How about you wasted the talents of the best player to step foot at the place in 20-30 years (Chris Wright).

I think everyone is reading this article out of context. At no point does he say UD is on the same level of those teams, he is merely using it as a parallel example. As in: it sucks that Mich St. and Butler won't to repeat their final 4 run because they won't qualify for the NCAA tournament; while Dayton won't be able to defend their NIT championship because they won't qualify for the NIT.
A non-NIT year is a down year at UD, just like a non-NCAA year is a down year at elite programs like Xavier and Michigan St. I mean to compare UD to Michigan St. and Xavier would just be crazy, so clearly that is not the author's intent.

When you've done this over the previous 7 years (not counting the NIT berth they will have this year) I don't know how Dayton hasn't made a change yet. Keep in mind the first year was with Purnell's players not his:
2003-04 Brian Gregory 24-9 12-4 NCAA 1st Round
2004-05 Brian Gregory 18-11 10-6
2005-06 Brian Gregory 14-17 6-10
2006-07 Brian Gregory 19-12 8-8
2007-08 Brian Gregory 23-11 8-8 NIT Quarterfinals
2008-09 Brian Gregory 27-8 11-5 NCAA 2nd Round
2009-10 Brian Gregory 25-12 8-8 NIT Champions

From what I can gather, I don't think Swampy is too well-respsected over there. When I first read some of his stuff (and I have since ignored it because he's a complete idiot), I couldn't imagine that any rational Dayton fan would agree with him. After getting a little more familiar with that board over the years, I don't think they do. I think they're just stuck with him and his crazy ass opinions. He's the kinda guy who'd be shot by his own troops if he was leading them in battle.

By the way, this article may be funnier than Swampy's...

I didn't know you could go on a 21-0 run and still lose by 14. Has that ever happened before?

oh swampy, how silly you are. Let's compare the teams real quick
MSU: How many straight sweet 16s have they gone to in the last 5 years (isn't X on par with that number)? Final Fours? Yeah, what about UDump? riiiiiight. This is a down year for MSU in the truest sense of the word.
Gonzaga: How many times have they won the WCC in the last 5 years? How many times has UDump won the A-14 in that time frame? yeeeaaahhh...........Gonzaga will still have a chance at making the tourney.
Butler: How many times have they won their (weak) conference in the last 5 years? How many times have they gone dancing in the tourney? Granted they did lose their best player, which then exposed matt howard and co. for the frauds they really are. Gordon made that team better than it actually is. Chris wright is your best player and he has actually had a regression after showing some signs of development. The team sucks regardless of his presence.
Well done, swamp, you're a moron. Those three teams are having actual down years, you're just doing the usual. it's cool though, keep BG for a while longer plz.

Not a lot can be said at this point.
How with 1 NCAA win in the last 20 years they are comparing themselves to a team that has made 5 final fours in that time frame..
Well I just don't know.
They really do not realize that they are dangerously close to not making the NIT.

This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes of all time.... Bruce Pearl, cerca 2007, talking about coaching at the same university with Pat Summitt: "Between the two of us, we have 7 National Championships..."
Love him or hate him, Pearl is a great interview. The obvious difference is Pearl said the above in jest while Swampy is dead serious.

Need to add UC and Georgia. I was not looking at A10 play alone.
Did not look at OOC because we all know how sad Dayton's OOC schedule can be.

What does "Biatching" mean?
I'm really starting to feel sorry for our friends up north.

Me too.
I used to love when UD lost because much of their fanbase continued to be delusional, but now many of them are getting it, realizing that their program is stuck in mediocrity under Brian Gregory. They're now borderline wearing the paper bags over heads to games at UD Arena, pining for the expiration of Gregory's contract.
But I honestly do feel bad for them. As for the players, for the most part I have no problem with any of them, just a bunch of kids that made a really poor choice. And I used to pay no mind to the rumors that Staten would transfer after this year, but it really could be legit. Allegedly, his effort last night was not unlike that of someone who just didn't want to be there.

Personally I am dumbfounded by the Fake Chris Wright.
The kid has tons of talent and even when he has a poor game, he still fills the stat sheet. But the way he picks up fouls, is simply amazing. When he played us and picked up a foul in what, the first 30 seconds at mid court, I couldn't believe it.
It's remarkable how guys don't improve under Gregory.
Dayton should not be finishing in the middle of the pack. If Staten does leave, that program is going to be really bad. Say goodbye to .500 conference records. Say hello to .500 seasons.
Thank God I'm a Xavier fan.

Here's something we agree on.
Wright is filling the stat sheet, but very inefficiently. He's absurdly overrated.
And then there's Chris Johnson. He had so much promise his freshman and sophomore year. This year, he's regressed a little.

This is a quote from the "article":
"Finally, the program that brought us Brian Gregory (http://www.udpride.com/forums/autolink.php?id=33&forumid=2&script=showthread); the team that UD resembles the most; the blueprint for most of what the Flyers do on both sides of the ball -- the MSU Spartans -- are hurtin’ for certain."
Someone please tell me how UD resembles Mich State?
Incidentally Swampy projected the Flyers to go 14-2 in the league this year (and last year as well)...there is a picture of this individual next to the word delusional in most dictionaries. It would be funny if it were not so sad.

Screw dayton and swamp. They aren't even worth our time. Are we or are we not tied for first place? Those jackholes are a middling team with a loser coach and an idiot blogger who thinks they are better than they are. We would be better talking about Rhodu or anyone else in the middle of this league. dayton doesn't deserve our time people, and yes I am lecturing you guys now. dayton doesn't deserve this attention.
I HATE dayton.

They will be delusional again as soon as the offseason starts. Every freaking year they are championship contenders at the mid-April point.

Actually, most UD faithful & even admin/coaches KNOW that next year is likely to be lean--even if Staten stays. They can hype a decent recruiting class in tandem w/their current frosh but they certainly realize the best possible hope is still 2 or 3 years away.

kyxu: We all see the delusions of UD future seasons, but I seriously tell you even they know next year is already hopeless and now it's wait until...2013 or 2014 which we all know will disappoint again.
