Mark Bradley's column in the Atlanta Constitution this morning. He says that the Falcons need a " what's referred to in the NBA as a James Posey type of player". The kind who shows others how to win championships.

Apparently James is held in very high regard in the league.

Except in Chicago, they hate Posey there. But yeah, Posey is a Robert Horry type of player. The Heat and Celtics don't win their championships without Posey.

I remember Jeff Van Gundy talking about how he would love having Posey on his team because he does all the little things, hates to lose, is a team guy, etc. At one point it seemed like Van Gundy was going to run onto the court and propose, but I think the rest of the broadcast team may have calmed him down.

The belief that there's a magic glue guy who leads to championships is a good way to make your team worse.

Yes, Posey was valuable to his championship teams (perhaps more than box scores indicate). No, he's not the player to take you over the edge.

His contract that NO signed him to was pretty bad. But every team does need a defensive stopper, James is getting a little old to be that guy. LA thought Ron Artest could keep doing that as his age, they were obviously wrong.

Is this Posey's 12th year in the league? Did he come out in 1998 or 1999? Either way, that is an excellent NBA career. Especially when you factor in those two NBA Championships.

He remains my all time favorite XU player. Not necessarily the best, but my fovorite and definitely one of the best.

GO JAMES POSEY!

Absolutely, Benxman. He's had a real solid NBA career -- it just got a little overhyped when people were dubbing him some kind of magical championship fairy.

Agree SmileyY! You might say Posey was a little bit lucky to be on those two championship teams, but in my book, luck is where PREPARATION & OPPORTUNITY coincide. In other words, those two franchises had pretty complete teams and the GM took a look around for the right kind of player to complete the championship mix. Presto! Enter James Posey. --Not the player to build a franchise around, but definitely the kind of player to complete the formula.
