Unreal....
I remember watching a game last year and noticed they had a good student section, but those are just ridiculous....

That's not just clever, that takes a lot of effort for their students to be choreographed like that. It's no wonder Utah State has trouble getting home-and-homes with major teams; they're almost always in the discussion for NCAA at-large bids. And they did knock off the Bucks in an NCAA game in 2000, so that's always nice.

That's AMAZING. I'm jealous (but not of the Wild Bill).

Love Utah State fans.... Forget Duke, they are so damn passionate about their basketball team and to be honest, they are probably the best student section in the country.
Wild Bill was a big subject at the end of last season and was on First Take as well as had a small tribute on SportsCenter last year during the Utah State highlights. For the record, he WAS the highlight.
The "I Believe" and "Winning Team/Losing Team" chants are unbelievable. As well as their embrace of Wild Bill as their own mascot.
When I see Wild Bill, it reminds me of good old Firehose...being a loud, big guy, doing anything and everything to distract the other team and give their team the best advantage possible.

they play utah and byu home and home, and georgetown is going out there next year (although i don't know what the date is. the students may not be there). i know it's not easy for them to get games (because of their location as much as anything), but at the same time they really need to try harder.
i think it's great to play local teams, but there is no need to play ALL of them EVERY year. nothing against utah valley state, southern utah, et al, but maybe utah state is now at a point to where they should consider not playing them home and home each and every year.
also, it's my understanding that utah state doesn't actively seek out events such as exempt tournaments. they do host their own exempt tournament, but all it really amounts to is three more games at home agianst weak teams.
i'm not suggesting that it would be easy to get games. i'm just saying there are things that they could do that they're not doing that would make the situation a little better. i mean...only two games against the rpi top 100 is a little ridiculous. they can do better than that.

I love how during the "I believe" chant the players from the other team were bouncing along with the student section.

In my opinion they are hands down the best fanbase in college basketball. Absolutely unreal, and as many have said, the program is on the rise as well.
Love this fanbase! If I ever decide to work in college sports instead of professional sports, I will almost definitely apply to work at Utah St. just to be a part of that!
Utah State's fanbase is like a massive drunk high school student section. They have the one leader (7th year senior?) who's big enough in size and personality to enforce. They have a bunch of students all over the place, all of whom are just as willing as the next to take part in the chaos. They're all on the same page. It really reminds me of a much larger scale version of our high school cheering section back in the day. Pretty cool that they are able to do it at the college level.

Was that when you guys were losing to SJC in football every year?

Ummm, you must not have been paying close attention when I was a student there. In fact, one of my favorite memories was the Eagles knocking them out of the playoffs (again) my senior year in front of the most packed crowd ever at Gonzaga.

We saw that first one in Navy's student section at the Army-Navy game in 2004.
We tried it at Xavier in 2005 for a bit.

X should schedule a series with them. It's either a good win or an acceptable loss.

Georgetown is not going to Utah St. The game this year was a one year deal.
No big time team will ever go play in that place and risk taking a loss. Utah St. rarely plays in buy games and can't really get anyone besides BYU or Utah to play them home and home, which is why their schedule is so weak every year.

I don't want to go there, but I DO think X should bite the bullet and always have a home and home with a Butler/Utah St./Western Ky/Old Dominion/etc.
I think it would be a good statement from X. Give those guys a shot. It is NOT a bad loss, and the selection committee is smart enough to know it. There are several programs that are only an opportunity or 2 from the big time. Utah St. does it right. Going West sucks, but I can honestly say I would deal with that series. It is an impressive program.

We talk about UC, Xavier, Dayton, Miami (and I guess Wright State to some extent) being part of the Mythical Miami Valley Conference, but the state of Utah DOES have a round-robin series between all 6 D-I teams: Utah, BYU, Utah State, Weber State, Southern Utah State and now Utah Valley University. They play for some trophy called the Oquirrh Bucket which is awarded at the end of the year.

EDIT - Upon further review of the article, they've retired the trophy within the past year, although the round-robin series will still exist for the most part between the original 4 teams (excluding Southern Utah State and UVU).

I was always a fan on singing during free throws. Kinda creepy, and it may throw off the shooters rhythm. I know we've done it occasionally in the past when the band gets cut off in the middle of "Hey Baby", but we could throw a song into the regular rotation for sure.

Not the amount of people- but more so the chants being used. Very High School to me. I bet they chant "you cant do that" after a foul and "H-A-R-D G-U-Y hardguy hardguy" all the time too. Weak.
Having said that- very cool for a High School chant.

Was that the guy the old board nicknamed Man Boobs, and he did some crazy dance? Then Man Boobs registered to defend his dancing? I can't remember exactly, except that it was funny as hell.

Agreed, except for the whole "drunk" part. They are from Utah after all.
The best basketball atmosphere I've ever personally witnessed was the 2006 WAC Tournament final -- Nevada (with Nick Fazekas and Ramon Sessions) vs. Utah State at Reno. USU brought 3,000-4,000 people, UNR had the rest of the seats, it was like 85 degrees in the arena, everyone on their feet bellowing, a nonstop cauldron for three hours in a nationally-televised overtime game. The Aggies bring it. There have been a few games at Cintas that approached that level of intensity but I've never seen one where the fanbases were roughly equal and completely out of their minds.

With their win last night I think it's safe to say Utah State is in regardless of how they do in the WAC Tournament. Saint Mary's is suddenly on shaky ground after losses to RPI anchor San Diego and USU and a home game against a resurgent Gonzaga team becomes an absolute must-win for the Gaels.
As far as midmajors go, the Colonial is a definite multi-bid league this year. ODU is about to add Cleveland State to their list of quality wins, and both George Mason and ODU are NCAA Tournament teams. VCU probably gets in, and it's possible a 4th team could sneak in if someone else wins the Colonial tournament in a couple of weeks.
The Horizon and Missouri Valley are completely muddled at the top - the Valley fell on its face during BracketBusters and the Horizon has 4 possible teams that could be the top seed in the Horizon tournament - Valpo, Cleveland State, Butler, and Milwaukee. Butler went 3-3 against the conference leaders but losses to Wright State and Youngstown State will haunt them if they miss the NCAAs this year. Most years they wouldn't even be in the discussion for an at-large but they benefit from a 68-team field at least in terms of being in the discussion this year.
