Today is a perfect, perfect day to illustrate my frustration with the coverage given our Musketeers.
before I start, I love the men's team, I watch every game, dvr those that I can't be home for etc. so I am not slighting them.
Look at today's online version, I'm assuming the print version will show the same thing.
2 new stories with photos on the men's team. A feature on the sherrif, and then a story on Xavier nearing the top 25. Nothing on the women, IN THE TOP TEN!!!!
Both of those articles are sideline/feature stories. XU men did not have a game last night, they don't play today.
When does women's sports get the same respect from the press?

Not trying to be a jerk but I guess there will be more coverage and respect when there is some interest. The papers are not trying to screw the womens basketball team its just very few people have interest. If they could sell more papers or advertising by including more coverage of Xavier womens basketball then they would be on the front page. If you want to get mad at anyone you really should be mad that more fans are not supporting the team. They draw very poorly for a team who is so highly ranked and has been for about the last 3 or 4 years. I think the lack of fan support correlates into lack of media coverage. Its reality.

Reps. I've been trying to make this point for a long time. The same applies to this womens basketball board. It's almost impossible to get a conversation started about women's basketball. There's very little interest.

This is a chicken/egg argument.Does media coverage just react to what happened, or should it be proactive to inform?

They are not just competing against men's basketball here in Cincinnati. The pecking order for sports coverage in this town is Red's, Bengal's, UC football & basketball, Xavier basketball, high school sports, Cyclones hockey, womens basketball and then I guess NKU men's basketball and a little NBA but they may come before Xavier women as far as local interest. There is only so much they can cover. I promise if more people wanted more Xavier coverage they would get it. Its not like they would rather close up shop then give Xavier women their due.
