Definitely going to be an extremely rough road test. Dayton is choking any chance of this one away, down 10 with a little over 5 minutes left

Watching ud and Richmond. While Anderson is at the foul line the announcer utters:

Anderson and Harper are the best 1-2 guard combo in the A-10.

I know Anderson is the reigning A-10 POY, but that is a mouthful.

Thoughts?

We'll find out saturday how bold of a statement that was, but Anderson is looking like the POY tonight...even if it's against UD.

Richmond is really pulling things together since the home loss to URI, but let's hope that takes a break saturday

To tell you the truth, the only thing I can think of right now is that UD Arena looks old and ugly.

And I see a lot of empty seats.

UD is a joke. vee, it didn't use to be this way, but I love it.

Now I'll give you my two cents Re your question: announcers being announcers, playing to the crowd that's tuned in. Otherwise, the announcer hasn't seen Xavier play. Technically, unless the announcer has seen every team play, why would he make such a statement?

I'm pretty thrilled about it! (Actually, Wright would probably be on his way to the NBA right now - or already there - if he picked X. The coaching would have been much better.)

I would say that's accurate. Tu and Anderson are fairly close, but Harper is averaging something like 25 ppg in A-10 play. Lyons is having an outstanding conference season thus far, but not quite like Harper's. We have a better frontcourt though.

Regardless, Saturday will be a tough one.

Exactly what Richmond fans are saying about TU. Xavier owns this league and will show it again on Saturday. Richmond is a typical team that is a pretender just like they were last year and crapped up their leg in the NCAA tourney like everyone else does in the A-10 not named Xavier.

Good God Dayton.

I think Chris Fake Wright is the only player in the country who could have a good game, but really you walk away and say, "He didn't really do anything."

Their offense was just pathetic. I never understood the idea of running ten to twelve guys out onto the court, if you are going to stretch your defense and create turnovers.

But hey, it won them the NIT last year, so what do I know.

I think the Flyers are positioning themselves well to defend their NIT title. Will they make back to back shirts?

The flyers are such a joke. I watched most of the game and everything they do just makes you scratch your head.

I dont know what they shot from 3pt range but it wasn't good. However, they continually took long jump shots early in the possession instead of trying to get to the rim. A good coach would have took control of the team and insisted that they be more aggressive but we all know too well that Brian Gregory will never be a "good coach."

I don't know much about Richmond's team besides Anderson, but do you think they'll put Lyons on Anderson? He's a quicker/better defender and it would keep TU, in theory, out of foul trouble.

I would think that would be the plan. I really think Lyons could give him a really tough time getting his own looks, although he has the ability to make unstoppable shots when he's hot regardless.

Richmond runs offense,

udump runs, well, ahhh, all over the court then jacks up an airball three. But they are crazy athletic.

By the time Juwan Staten is a senior he would have morphed into London Warren with the superb coaching he'll get for the next 3 years.

Nice effort Cryers. Disgraceful.

Tu hasn't fouled out all year. He's smart enough to stay out of foul trouble. I do think he and Lyons will alternate guarding Anderson though.

...or leaving your best player off the court for too long. I couldn't believe he sat Wright with the fouls. Richmond made their initial run in the second half when Wright sat. I would have brought him back sooner after the 3rd foul. UD really does take some crappy-ass shots.

ALL!
I am amazed no one has pointed out WHY Dayton lost tonight. Jawan Staten ,the next great Flyer phenom, had the flu, according to Doug Harris, the DDN beat writer for UD. "Staten was vomiting before the game," sayeth Harris. Paraphrasing: Jawan did not start but tried to play despite his flu wracked body, and made only a brief, but game try in the first half.
Who was the kid who came to Cintas a few yarn back and was going to destroy Xavvier? Rob Brown or ??? Anyway, Xavier hung a lead between 30 and 40 points on the Flyers and played subs the final half.
Wonder what the next excuse will be? Get the bad Philly-cheese steaks consumption excuse ready for the next Flyers' home loss.
Makes me ashamed to have been (and still am) a friend of numerous DDN sports reporters who have either retired, died, or are practicing their trade elsewhere. Ggggaaaaaggggghhh!!! Very sad.:p:(

I'd like to think that Xavier fans wouldn't put up with a Gregory type coach.

But I don't know. UD is in a tough position. Dayton wins a lot of games (albeit, against bad teams). It might look bad to fire him. I could see analysts like Jay Bilas blast Dayton and it might be tough to attract a good coach.

I hope that if X ever hires a bad coach, he's really, really bad and we go under .500 and it's an easy decision to fire him.

I'm racking my brain trying to remember the last time one of our players, missing part or an entire game due to sickness.

What is the deal at Dayton with their players getting sick? Am I mistaken about this? It seems every year, some Dayton player has small pox, or scarlet fever, or mumps and is unable to start/play/run in out of the game.

Does anybody have any idea what they feed those Flyers?

If I had to guess, I'd say some variation of Mellon. ;) Seems like it would do them some good to add some Vitamin C to their diet...next we'll hear about Scurvy over taking their locker room.

I mean really - isn't there always an outbreak of the flu or indigestion or food poisoning up n Dayton every year, that stragnely seemed isolated to the UD Arena Men's Baksetball Locker Room?

Either they recruit players witht the wrost imune systems known to man, or we need to investigate UD Dining Services.

Yes. It does always seem like at least one Dayton player misses a game every year due to Monkey Pox, Diptheria, or some other terrible illness. It is inevitably a key player, and they always would have won the game if only he was healthy.

I think it is because the arena is too close to the sewage treatment facility.

Exactly, it's never the walk ons or the guys who are 9th coming off the bench. Then it becomes, "Well we would have won if our best player didn't have shingles."

At Dayton, they put our a press release every time a guy has the sniffles. They want the Dayton Daily News to throw it in the article after a loss so that their faithful fans won't feel bad about the loss.

I think part of it is that UD is basically Dayton's professional team -- cheered by UD folks and townies alike -- and is by far the most covered local team. They don't have any competition for media attention. If Tu Holloway has the poops, it's probably never going to be reported.

That's a huge part of it, but last night the ESPN guys were talking about it. The only way they find out is if UD's SID tells them about it and gives them persmission to discuss on the telecast. If Tu has the poops, X's SID is not going to bring it up with the TV crew before the game.

Media is probably primary but I would expect dedication to the coach and team to be a factor. Players will play down their illness as much as possible so they don't get pulled. It seems Gregory's players like him but perhaps there's a secondary cause there. Does he take a lot of sick days from practice?

They are already preparing for their next loss. They are claiming that Benson is also sick. With the amount that team is sick, they need to fumigate that whole school.
