Yancy Gates played so well. Why did they even write this article. Kind of makes Yancy look bad in that he was not ready to play until some unidentified Xavier player started trash talking. Bill Koch is bush league. How about write an article about how hard Yancy has worked to overcome being lazy and not always working hard the past 2 years. I guess UC is screwed on Sunday unless someone starts trash talking Yancy.

I'm sure Yancy (and no uc player for that matter) ever talks trash.

Yeah "trash talk" somehow transferred Nancy Gates in Yancy Gates. Please. If playing against Xavier at home after having lost to them three straight times (not to mentions it is the Crosstown Shootout in any event) then that means that Nancy is a bigger stiff than I had thought. And frankly having watched him play for a couple plus years now, I thought he was a pretty big stiff.

I think the article was written more so to take a shot at Xavier and Kenny in my opinion.

agreed. It doesn't take "trash talk" to get elite players motivated to have a decent game. Yancy will turn back into Nancy in Big East play.

"King Kenny" lol, did not motivate Yancy by trash talking. Gates would outplay frease 9 times out of 10. He is better in all aspects of the game. The fact that kenny was running his mouth after 2 early baskets just makes it a little more enjoyable.
Frease is a good ball player and will dominate the atlantic 10. There is not shame in a future NBA player hitting shots that could not be defended.

Maybe WNBA, but, not NBA.;)

seeing as though Xavier as a team has beaten Gates' UC teams 2 of 3 times throws a few holes in your arguments there, bub. Gates has an NBA body and talent, but does he have the work ethic and toughness to play at the next level? Let's see him body up down low with some of the bigger frontcourts of the Big East (and holding his own) before you start anointing him a future NBA player.

I call bs. Frease and Gates head butted each other the other year, and that didn't make Gates play any better...

What were Nancy's stats in that Villanova game. How many fade aways did he hit that night. Take your hat off. The dude had the game of his life against X last week. He has never and will never come close to such a night again in his career.
Nancy is one and done!

The Xavier game was one point shy of his career high in points and matched his career high in rebounds so he has in fact had a least one game like that in his career. I would hope he was motivated by more than someone talking but regardless I'm pleased with his performance. If you look at his season stats from last year and the year before his production actually goes up when he gets into Big East play. He may not be the player he was hyped to be but he isn't close to the bust some try to make him out to be either.

Dude, the Shootout was almost a week ago. What are you still doing here? We've moved on. You should, too. Why don't you go visit a Villanova thread and start talking shit there?

Are you so thick that you don't think talking about Gates and posting non factual information might bring a response from a UC fan? I have been to the Villanova boards btw, congratulated them on a fine win.

Let me guess - St. John's fans were talking trash and Yancy Gates hits a game-winning shot in the closing seconds for UC. Give them credit - they at least got a significant road win in the Big East.

Lets face it, the Xavier team that has been showing up as of late, is not the same team that took the crosstown trip to sUCks. And once again, it'll be evident when UC crash-lands in the Big East and we celebrate on Selection Sunday.

SJU aint that bad, I watched them destroy ND last week. And Cinci had to play on campus, not at MSG. That said it was an ugly game judging from the second half, since i was watching X for their first half. My SJU friends are none too happy about that loss though, had it chalked up as a win in their dream .500 big east season

They lost to freaking Fordham and lost on that same on campus arena to St. Bonaventure. St. John's sucks.

Hey I was at Rose Hill cheering on the Rams, couldn't believe the threes they hit to come back from 21 down in the 2nd half.
SJU Beat Gtown at the garden too. Whatever, they aren't making the touny but they have 10 seniors and that is a glorified gym, totally thought they would beat UC there. They are on the way back though

We lost to freaking Miami (OH). One game does not a team make.

St. John's is actually 4-3 in Big East play, so they're not a complete stiff.

When is X coming back to the Garden? Any chance we're in the pre-NIT any time soon? That MSU game was bad.

Unless you're a member of the Big East, Madison Square Garden is by far the most overrated college basketball venue. Sure, they have a couple of important preseason tournaments, but the only games that really mean anything are played in the Big East Tournament. And even then, that conference doesn't have too many memorable games.
The 6-OT game between Syracuse and UConn is one that comes to mind. UC-DePaul? Not so much.

It was the jam 10 years ago when SJU was good, always packed to the gills, was funny seeing Jarvis on the sideline before our game today on ESPN2, well more sad than funny. There migt have been 3 grand in the building for that MSU game, not saying it's a great venue for us but the preNIT is always well attended and I am selfish
