So I watched the Dayton and SLU game last night. SLU took I think 4,000 shots and missed about all of them.

Dayton has a lot of players that's for sure. But again they have two BWS that come off the bench. I still think Paul Williams can be a really really good player.

Anyway, my buddy just sent me the official home attendance average for your A-10 conference.

Drum roll please....

3,739!

That's slightly below UC. Amazing.

Xavier demands better.....any conference realignment needs to consider this. SLU and UD do well in this department, Charlotte is decent at times, Richmond should do better as should UMass and Temple.

Thats a sad, sad statistic...

You ever been to UMess? It's out in the middle of freaking nowhere. Hadley, MA. is not a big town and Amherst is even smaller. About 20 students out of a campus population of 20,000 come. Add to that fact that Derek Kellogg cannot coach and there you have it.

Temple is an absolute mystery to me, except that the Philadelphia media fawns all over 'Nova and the Big Greased. I know it's in a sketchy area of North Philly, but the neighborhood is actually getting better and there is a nice safe parking garage right next to the arena. Temple has been good enough for long enough that they should have 10,000 alumni alone falling into that nice building on Broad. Temple has basically bought up all the slums around there and knocked them down for campus expansion, so there is really no reason not to go to a game there- even at night.

Rhodee is not near a major city so it needs to draw from a wide range. The roads leading to there are mostly two laners so if the weather is bad, as it is many days at this time of the year, it's not the easiest place to get to- especially at night.

Rhody is near Foxwoods. That should be a good enough draw. But Rhody has generally done pretty well. I think they're just fed up with Baron.

Amherst is a great college town, and they've got a nice arena. And it's not far from Springfield, so it's not really in the middle of nowhere. But it would be better if it were somewhere in the vicinity of Boston (which it decidedly is not). I read threads on Louisville football boards all of the time talking about how the Big East could "get the Boston market" by adding UMass. It always gives me a good chuckle.

Temple has to compete with Villanova, LaSalle, St Joseph's, Pennsylvania and Drexel for community support. I don't know of any other city that has 6 DI basketball programs.

I've been to UMass. I thought it was easy to get to actually.

I think it comes down to the fact, none of these fans gives a crap about their programs. That's just sad that we can't pull more than that on a Sunday afternoon.

The Big Six really doesn't have anything to do with it. If I'm a Temple fan, I'm not going to go and watch Nova play UC. Most likely I'm not going to go to anything.

The eagles game probably was the biggest problem for the Owls. I mean other than the fact they have no fans and SLU was in town.

still, pretty bad.

Philly's a big market.

I would agree with you except for your inclusion of Lossalle and Drexel. Especially LaSuck. They can't even get 2,000 into their garage.
