View Full Version : Florida falls to Jacksonville in OT
This is partially terrible scheduling, but Florida lost to Jacksonville in OT this afternoon, just two days after beating #6 K-State. Outstanding.

Florida is the exact same team as last year and they needed a few last second wins to make the tournament. Not sure why people thought they would be top 10.

Wow they lost to a team that Dayton goes toe to toe with in recruiting.

It's worse than that -- JU hasn't been relative since Artis Gilmore. They're trying to comeback now, after years of neglect.
BTW, I've met Artis Gilmore. Nice guy. And he's humongous.

Coming off a big win against Kansas St. and take a dump like that tonight.
I hope we beat them. We have @ Gonzaga, Florida at home, and @ Georgia to get quality non conference wins. I'm not real confident in any of those games.
I wouldn't say we have any "quality" wins out of conference and we have one baaaaad loss @ Miami. Butler would be the only quality win and thats weak.

I saw this. Must have had an emotional letdown. Or, they are really bad. Didn't they have another bad home loss earlier this year.

J-ville was actually projected by Lunardi as the A-Sun champ; they're currently 7-3 and 2-0 in conference play.
Apparently they got real good once they started recruiting guys above Dayton's level.

Oh, those small conferences who can't schedule anyone who have started conference play already. Kinda takes you back to the MCC...

C'mon... How can you forget that they were sort of relevant when this guy played for the Dolphins?

Man this really blows. Florida is a team we could have pointed too come selection sunday. I dont know that we will have a top 25 win by the end of the year because I just dont know if any team on our schedule will be in the top 25.

Over confidence when it came to freshman production.

Here is a good explanation from Jeff Goodman on why Florida lost yesterday

Parsons shot the ball 6 times while Boynton and Walker combined to shoot it 25 times.

Erving Walker is the epitomy of a ball hog. This kid has never seen a shot he didnt like.

People will probably call our win against Wake a 'quality' win simply because they are an ACC team.
I remember a few years ago when we throttled a crappy LSU team at Cintas I heard it referred to as a 'quality win' a few times when talking about tournament resumes. Some of those guys literally just look at the name of the school and make an assumption, seemingly without watching the team play at all.

Pomeroy ratings of interesting XU non-conference opponents:
ODU: 45 (that loss will look fine at the end of the year)
Miami: 187 (owww...)
Butler: 28 (that'll be a nice win)
Gonzaga: 56 (good chance for another quality win)
Florida: 24 (Jacksonville St. notwithstanding, they'll at absolute worst be an above-average team buoyed by the SEC)
Cincinnati: 36
Georgia: 89 (Remarkably, this will be a better game than when it was scheduled -- Georgia has beaten enough non-con teams that, even if they flop in SEC play, they'll still have the SOS to be a good win)
XU, by the way, is 71.

Interesting that Butler is still at 28 despite their HOME LOSS to the mighty Evansville Purple Aces. I hate that analysts look at team names and conference names (LSU and SEC, perfect example) instead of actually watching teams play. I agree that Wake may be looked upon as a quality win due to just existing in the ACC.
That being said, Butler is still at 28, and it could be said that our win over a sub-par Butler team is a "quality" win, just due to them being in the National Championship last year.

Not exactly sure, but I believe that Pomeroys rankings, while having a factor for location (home/road/neutral), actual wins or losses are not a factor. It's strictly efficiency based (I think).

Some close ones, then this? What's with them, are they a top 25 or not? It'd be one thing if it was just this one game but they've had problems at different moments this year.
