Beachem is a solid shooting guard, and at 6'7" (self-reported. listed at 6'6") 175, this sophomore out of Fort Wayne, Indiana (attends Paul Harding H.S., school is closing after this year, may attend FW Luers with James Blackmon, Jr. (IU Commit)), but it is up in the air. Can really shoot the ball, and is one of the best players in the state of IN as a soph. www.thehoopside.com/top-prospects.php
here is his profile

to see how ratings work..
note that all players (Freshman-Senior) are on the same scale (meaning he that is rating is NOT in comparison to those in his class, but his skill as seen from a collegiate level)

Just wanna thank TheHoopSide1 for his (or her) site to our attention. Solid, solid stuff.
Too bad it's only Illinois and Indiana. I like the way you break down prospects, including IQ and player comparisons.
Kudos.

Thanks a lot, I really really appreciate it.
Right now I am actually just Indiana and if I get the opportunity to break out to another state, it will definitely be OHIO. After LeBron and Jared S. I gotta believe there are more than (something like) 15 D1 players in the state. I know the site says &Illinois, but I haven't branched out yet.

Hoopman - what's your take on the Matt Carlino fiasco. Will any D-1 school give him a scholly now?

Yeah I think someone will..probably IU (because they seem to just be making scholarships out of thin air! haha) but seriously give him a benefit of the doubt for a little bit. He graduated early to play at UCLA and then gets a concussion, and as soon as he is cleared to play, his coach doesn't play him. The reason was is because they were playing #4 Kansas Jayhawks, but then he didn't get to play against Montana, either. "I probably should have played him in the Montana game and we might not be having this discussion," Howland said. So I don't necessarily think that it was as much of a "fiasco", and more a "series of unfortunate events". His condition is understandable (overreacted a bit? probably) but I'm sure a school like Butler or something would be happy to have him.

That's my guess for his eventual landing spot.

I would think not. Gotta wonder about a kid quitting after 7 games, 3 of which he was hurt. UCLA now with only 9 scholly players. Sounds like a "take my ball and go home" type.

He didn't play in a single game though, I think he bit off more than he could chew, or a promise by Howland was made that he didn't follow through with.
That, and Howland is kind of on a roll of having players transfer as of late...
This was a good read in regards to the issue.

Sometimes player and coach don't have the same vision, as was the case with former UCLA forward Drew Gordon and coach Ben Howland. Gordon left the school last December and eventually enrolled at New Mexico.
Sometimes the sides can't find a way to make things work and part ways. That was the case when Howland dismissed big man J'mison Morgan following last season. Morgan, a Texas native, moved closer to home and is now coming off the bench for Baylor.
Sometimes it boils down to playing time. Chace Stanback, who played his high school ball at nearby Fairfax, left after his freshman campaign in 2008; Mike Moser left after his freshman season last year. Both are at UNLV.
Freshman guard Matt Carlino became the latest to jump ship Friday, surprising Howland with the announcement of his intent to leave the school. Carlino, who graduated from high school a year early to enroll at UCLA, did not see action in any of the Bruins' first seven games. He had sat out the first three with a concussion.
"It is with great humility that I declare my intentions to transfer from UCLA,” Carlino said in a statement released by the school. “I want to thank the university, coach Howland and his staff for affording me the opportunity of a lifetime. However, I believe a new destination would be much healthier for me both personally and athletically. I sincerely apologize to all those, especially those closest to me, who may find my decision disappointing, and I want to wish all of my coaches and teammates at UCLA best of luck going forward.
“I hope to be enrolled in a new educational institution by next semester, though I’ve not yet determined my schools of interest. I will have no further comments on this matter.”
Carlino's decision appears to be related to playing time, with Howland admitting, "I probably should've played him in that Montana game and we wouldn't have this discussion."
Howland is usually blunt about the lack of rest his key players get. Last season, he repeatedly acknowledged that Michael Roll and Malcolm Lee were spending too much time on the floor. Roll averaged a team-leading 35.8 minutes per game; Lee wasn't far behind at 34.8.
And for a team that had obvious depth issues, the numbers tell it all: Moser, who could have spelled Roll and Lee, averaged just 4.7 minutes and sat more games (17) than he played in (15). Morgan tallied a mere 8.7 minutes per game even though UCLA was thin up front with the losses of Gordon (transfer) and James Keefe (injury).
Howland may be surprised, but Carlino's decision is far from shocking.

Sorry, but it's shocking to me and was to the coach. 4 GAMES? He's a freshman, what did he expect? Big waste of time and effort for UCLA, and hurts their team. Other coaches will see it as a problem, i.e., what if he quits on me? Schollies ain't growing trees.

I agree about that, if he was to transfer, he should have at least waited until season's end. But perhaps he is just antzy to play college ball (could explain why he left H.S. a year early). Leaving HS early is a big deal and when seeing no return one may grow frustrated and maybe it wasn't a good fit for him. A lot of college kids transfer after one semester just because they don't like the campus life.

This, that: Harding's VJ Beachem is a 6-foot-6 sophomore wing and is rated as one of the top recruits in the class of 2013. He scored 33 points and drilled seven 3-pointers in a victory against Fort Wayne Northrop on Feb. 10. He was named to the All-Summit Athletic Conference First-Team this season. And he scored 33 points in the sectional championship game against Leo last Saturday
