Wow. Just wow. And the rich get richer. Halladay, Lee, Oswalt and Hammels. That is just dirty. I know they lost Werth...but how the hell can one team afford that pitching staff?

and expect lots of criticism of Hal and Hank Steinbrenner and how their father wouldn't have let it happen.

I think Cliff is leaving some money on the table. I really not sure what else they could have done. They offered the 7th year which Lee wanted.
This site is already comparing the Phillies rotation to other of the best rotations in history

I love how Favre, the diva media whore, isn't even the main story on the day he ends his streak. Cliff Lee stole the show. That's what you get for dragging out your soap opera retirement and besmirching your family (including your cancer patient wife) by texting your willy to some wench. End rant.

It was the main story everywhere but ESPN. After the Texans-Ravens game Sportscenter followed. For the first half hour of the show it was almost entirely about Favre. After they showed 10 minutes of a Favre press conference they briefly mentioned the Lee deal then went back to their football guys to talk about Favre. They barely even mentioned how good of a game Houston-Baltimore was. It was pathetic, but didn't expect much else from espn

Selling out their ballpark year in and year out puts them in a position to print their own money in that regard. Unlike Dick Jacobs, the Phillies brass has deeper pockets to begin with.

I cannot wait in 3 years though when the all those players get old and they are stuck with some bad contracts. Hopefully, they don't win one and this was a big waste of time and money for the Phillies, the NL's Yankees.

You have deeper pockets than Dick Jacobs. That's because Dick Jacobs is dead.
Not sure what Dick Jacobs has to do with Cliff Lee signing with the Phillies other than he used to own the Indians. Of course that was before Cliff Lee actually played for the Indians.
But a good point overall.
Today we found out that Cliff Lee actually likes the smell of farts.
Awesome.

Maybe they figured out that winning the NL East every year can be profitable?

I believe it was five years ago that the Nats had a better attendance than the trash.

That is a sick pitching staff. But let's also remember that adding Greg Maddux to a pitching staff that already had Tom Glavine, John Smoltz and Steve Avery was also supposed to ensure Atlanta a slew of rings back in the day. Let's see how their batting lineup fares during the season.
At least they won in 1995 to ensure that their legacy was a step above the Buffalo Bills.

I'm sure Philly fans would cry if their team only won 5 pennants and 11 division titles (in a row) :)

Or if the Eagles went to the NFC Championship 4 straight years. Nope. Wouldn't complain about that. Not at all. Not a peep.
