Going FBS isn't an awful idea by itself, but playing in Foxboro is huge thumbs down. They won't get the Boston market just by playing random games there.

I worked as a consultant for Florida Atlantic when they started their football program. They were hellbent on looking "for real" and insisted on playing in Dolphin's Stadium. Well Boca Raton to Miami is an hour drive and having games so far from school in an apethetic sports market was crazy. They drew like 5k fans in a 75,000 seat stadium...looked very "for real".

Plus they did a long term contract and had to buy their way out of it to move games closer to campus. That cost hurt their initial fund raising to build an on campus stadium....they ar ejust breaking grounf next year...10 years later.

I think the whole thing is stupid for them. Boston people barely care about BC. They're sure as hell not going to care about UMass. And there aren't enough people in Western Mass near Amherst to support a I-A program.
