Don't know if you all heard about this...and the video is quite frightening, but Richard Zednik had his carotid artery slashed last night due to a skate blade. A total accident, but he is lucky to be alive right now.

Yeah, that was a lot of blood. Glad he is ok. I would like to know just exactly they were able to stop him bleeding without doing some majorly intrusive things in the field.

Apparently it was the same team physician that worked on Kevin Everett...that is one good doc

The Trainer for Buffalo that assisted was also the same trainer that helped with Clint Malarchuk years ago.

I felt a lot more squeamish when I saw just how much blood was on the ice; sometimes I wonder if I should be surprised that accidents like this don't happen more often in the NHL.

It shocked me that they finished the game.

Zednik is one tough dude. He grabbed his own throat and calmly skated to the bench. Now that is old time hockey. All that game needed has a little foil and the Hanson brothers.

I saw that video last night. The part that amazed me was how quickly all that blood got out there.
I played intramural hockey in college, and pick up games for a while after. I'd be lying if I said that the possibility of this happenening didn't scare the beejezus out of me. We did not have a world class doctor on the bench.
