You might find more information under CJ Gettys

CJ Gettys-(2012- Findlay H.S. OH) - 6-foot-10 inch center was the tallest player at the camp, Gettys looks to be comfortable in the high post and finding his cutting teammates. When on the block he passes well out the double team and goes to his jump hook as his go to move. Not very athletic, Gettys needs to continue sharpening his skills around the block. He has just returned to the court after having his appendix removed in early July.

Hopefully this is not a "Kevin Hart" case.
I wanted to play D-I ball more than anything. When I realized that wasn't going to happen, I made up what I wanted to be reality.

I haven't heard anything about this kid. Never heard of him being on anyone's radar at X.
His coach at Findlay used to be the coach at Rocky River High School up here. I'll try to tap a source to find out more.
That being said, this could be another "diamond in the rough" deal. Jason Love turned out pretty damn good.

I can't imagine that we are seriously recruiting this kid to be a scholarship athlete. I get that some kids are diamonds in the rough, but this would be a little over the top.

Did you see this kid's picture? Clearly a BWS.

He might have committed as a walk-on, but he is not a scholarship player at Xavier.

Rivals has cleared this up as being a misunderstanding. Not going to happen.
He has Dayton written all over him IMHO.

Yep.
Fits right in with the scarecrow tradition.

It's on ESPN's recruiting site as a verbal commit. They show him at two stars. Good size. Who knows?

Well we do have three senior walkons.
This make 0 cents.

I would take him as a walk on, but i think there are plenty of low major schools who would offer him.

We haven't offered him a 'ship. He "committed" because he wants to be a walk-on. That is all.

His AAU team is Spiece. I'm assuming that is Indy Spiece? Is there another?

Is this your opinion or you have talked to people who said this?
I am not trying to call you out on this, just curious.

I read the same thing on rivals. May be the same source.

He's now listed as "undeclared" on that page.

What? No one here's excited for the next Adam Simon to come on board?

I kind of feel for the kid, with everybody getting all up in arms about him 'committing'. Hopefully he isn't reading the board.
If he wants to walk-on, then good for him. It sounds like he would be a pretty good talent for a walk-on. The only reason everybody freaked out for a bit was because we thought he was getting a scholarship.

Uh....yeah? When you are holding out for and hoping for a Top 5 recruit in Rodney Purvis or Kyle Anderson to round out the 2012 class and you hear a guy whom no one has ever heard of gets the 'ship then yea, means for freaking out.
But, all is well. Best of luck to CJ making the team, good to hear the kid really likes Xavier.
