Just heard while watching the Illini and MSU on Big Ten Network, that Robbie Hummel tore ish ACL again in priactice today. Wow. He has no luck. He better work on his coaching abilities, cause I think basketball is over for him competitively....

He blew out his knee again this morning in practice. Poor kid. Purdue still has a darn good team, but they will probably always wander "what if"...
We've been lucky the past half decade that none of our guys have had severe injuries. The last one I can think of is Brian Thornton.

Trul sad news. First thing I thought about was our own, Chris Mack.

The Big Ten was going to be a lot of fun this year with Michigan State, Ohio State, and Purdue.

I heard this and I was immediately taken aback. I liked him as a player; nothing flashy but just a good solid, fundamental kid. I hope he gets another season from the NCAA if that's what he wants to do. Otherwise, he would make a great Graduate Assistant.

I always like to see former recruits of Xavier do well, except Matt Howard. I remember watching a Purdue game last season when Hummel could not miss. I think he hit 8 threes in the first half, and Purdue was still behind.
This reminds of Xavier guard Rob Barker who never was able to play D1 ball because of multiple knee operations. I hope for a quick recovery for Hummel.

My previous comment was taken down on this thread. So I guess I'll "clean" it up.
I've never liked Hummel for a similar reason that I don't like Larry Bird. But I do feel bad for him.

Fawkes, you are so difficult to understand. I don't see why you would ever make that statement that you did earlier.

This makes me remember the summer when Darnell Williams blew out a knee during the NIT All-Star games. Changed that team dynamic forever. A fully able trio of Lenny Brown, Darnell and Gary Lumpkin would have been so much more than they were.

Don't forget Posey in that bunch too. I also believe they had a big man leave a few games into the season that year (Desmond Walker).

Is it because they are white? Larry Bird did more with his limited athletic ability than probably anyone in the NBA. He was a great player but for different reasons. Smart, great shooter, great instincts and knew how to play the game.

I don't think Larry Bird in any way had limited athletic ability. I think he gets that brush because he's white. You're not top-10 all-time with limited athletic ability.

Why does everything have to be about race? I wouldn't care if Hummel and Bird were white, black, blue, or orange.

I do love the rare occasions that players are given cross-race comparisons.

But you said earlier in the post that got removed that you didn't like Bird because he was WHITE.
You are contradicting yourself, which is throwing my mind into a frenzy.

ok, yeah, to be completely honest, white basketball players who play really well annoy me. I can't be the only one to have that feeling. I always thought it was universal.

Ok, I did not say that about Guy. I may think it at times but I didn't write or say that.

This is brutal for all Purdue fans. I can't even imagine getting news like that about one of our Xavier players. I realize that Redford did just get injured, but he is not as big of a key to our success as Hummel is to Purdue. Pile that on top of being injured early last year, don't know how they can take it.
Although, we have dealt with coaches leaving, and while at the time it seemed devastating, it has turned out quite well for us.
