We have the largest interior post player in the WORLD!:D
:logo:
They had more viable threats on offense and better perimeter shooting than we did this year. That comparison just doesn't work. You put Tu on Butler he takes far fewer shots.
As for why I don't think Lyons can do what Mack did, one of them is a big time play maker the other doesn't seem like he has that quality. Also Mack has a better shot.
I know he can produce, I just think that comparison sucks.
Different coach, different team, the past is irrelevant.
Except with the departure of Jordan Crawford where we slipped quite a bit. That Marquette team we lost to wasn't very good. We should be higher up on the food chain than that.
Also the losses to Charlotte and UC were embarrassing.
I can think of a worse shoot out loss when they played Cronin's first team but that shouldn't be the standard to say we don't do bad unless we lose to a team that's an absolute atrocity in every aspect of the game.
I think everyone was dissapointed with the one and done post season, it's great that we win conference titles but we used to be a danger for a most teams to play.
It's clear that you really have no idea what you're talking about. Used to be a danger? We lost in the first round for the first time in five fucking years! It happens to everyone. And Lyons hasn't had to take on the same role as Shelvin Mack, and has two years left. You have no clue how he might do in the same role in the future. You should do more reading than posting.

This is an interesting sign if you ask me. I think it's nice to add some more size at the 5 position, but I'm concerned this kid may fall into the same boat Frease did. Kenny was supposed to be this big thing for us and basically has been a bust for the most of his 3 years so far. From the videos I've seen so far at least Bhullar actually dunks the ball and doesn't pump fake six time and then miss easy lay-ups. Does anyone have any extra information on this kid??

Would you consider Jason Love a bust? Love's first three seasons vs. Kenny's first three season. Kenny is better in almost every statistical category. Big men take years to develop. Kenny with a solid off season will average 14 and 8 next season and play pro basketball in the NBA or Europe... I don't consider that much of a bust.

Sim Bhullar | 2012 | 7'5 | C | CIA BOUNCE | Huntington Prep
This 7'5 monstrousity was solid all week yet again. Bhullar has great hands, making all the tough catches and is a very good passer, usually creating opportunities for monster jams, courtesy of the beast, Anthony Bennett. Speaking of dunks, big Sim has built a repuation for going right through defenders with force, as if they are not present. In LA, he almost tore down the rim while creat a poster against Boo Williams. There are still several skills that he possesses that have not been displayed during EYBL, and he will need to receive more touches inside in order for him to operate. Once he learns to establish his interior game via hook shots and short jumpers, he will literally become unstoppable. At this point, he is still timid in terms of demanding the ball but needs to become more assertive. Bhullar is a great kid off the court as well, quiet and can be considered our typical "friendly giant." As long as throws a mean streak on the hardwood, he will be dominant for years to come; the big man continues to impress.

Yeah -- even in the NBA, I hate that play by the defense. Most of the time, it ends in an and-1.
It's so exciting to hear he's doing well. Every time I see videos of him I just can't get over the fact that we're getting a 7'5" guy. That is so freakishly huge. Where the hell does that guy shop? I don't think places like Casual Male XL would even carry clothes his size. Why do I feel dirty for just having written Casual Male XL?
But I digress. Sim Bhullar is going to be a beast. There are still a couple fans on Rivals who aren't happy with giving him a scholarship and I think they're nuts. The kid has a great attitude and once he gets a little meaner and more comfortable on the court, sheds a few more pounds, and learns our system, he's going to be an unstoppable force in college basketball.

I know there are a lot of nay-sayers out there about Sim, which I can understand. He is still a project - but watching some of the videos now compared with the videos from 6 months ago is astounding.
If he works hard and becomes more agile, we may have an absolute freaking monster on our hands. Seriously. He would be absolutely unstoppable. Think about it. 7'5" vs. 6'10". That would be like Kenny Frease playing against a 6'5" dude in the post. Holy shit. This really may be one unbelievable pickup.
Trying to guard him would be like throwing rice at King Kong.

Solid quote. Agree with everything you said. The improvement has been phenomenal. Imagine what a year of redshirting would do? What's scary, is that he is just scratching the surface.
This is what I meant when I confronted Muskiepimp23 earlier about his comments of writing off a 16 year old prospect as "a big stiff" and a "waste of a scholarship"

06-03-2011, 03:49 PM
Well, I'm bullish (Bhullish?) on Sim, too, but its not like height is a factor that makes you completely unstoppable. On the dunk, you can see that the much smaller defender hand his had at the same level as Sim's (and probably fouled him). So head-to-head in the air, guys will be playing at the same height as him. Of course, the opposing player can't stay in the air forever, and Sim will still be up there, so that's a plus.
But yeah, there are moves that he has or could develop that could make him very hard to stop, like that dropstep-and-dunk, or a spin-and-bank-off-the-glass.

Don't laugh......Sim might be our ticket to The Final Four.
I really think the only major concern with Sim is potential injuries with his size. I'm no longer worried about conditioning because I've seen how far he's already come and I've seen more players than I can count leave Xavier's program in much better condition than they came in. I'm not that worried about pace of play or any of that because Sim is only going to be on the floor if he's worth having on the floor, which I think he is. If Xavier needs to play faster they will have the lineups to do that too. My only real concern is health. If he can stay healthy, he will become a beast at some point for us.

Sim Bhullar’s 7-foot, 4-inch frame folds awkwardly into a seat at the Air Canada Centre.
His size 22s barely fit beneath him. His knees jut out into headspace of the adjacent row. Bhullar’s 340 pounds are as uncomfortable as they have ever been.
But the baby-faced giant is growing used to his enormous stature, and the massive expectations they produce. And if you ask him, the 18-year-old will tell you he fully expects to reach those heights.
“I want to make it to the NBA,” he says, looking over the wooden Raptor floor, pondering a day when maybe, just maybe, he’ll dunk a ball and thousands of Toronto fans will roar with him.
“I want to play here for my family and my friends, and everything,” he says.
Bhullar’s already as close to here as an 18-year-old from where Islington Ave. meets Albion Rd. can be.
On Tuesday he joined Canada’s top high school basketball players at the All-Canada Classic.
Among the prospects joining Bhullar on the ACC floor were Mississauga’s Naz Long and Brampton’s Anthony Bennett — teammates at Findlay College Prep in Nevada. (It’s the same school that NBA-bound Tristan Thompson, of Brampton, went to).
Long and Bennett’s West squad — along with Bhullar — were getting schooled 78-49 in a defenceless first half, highlighted by a would-be-dunk air ball by Bennett as time ticked down at the half.
In the end, the West topped the East 132 to 111, in a high-scoring, fast-paced, zero-defence tilt that lived up to its All-Star game billing.
Ottawa’s Negus Webster-Chan, who finished with 25 points for the West, was named game MVP.
On the women’s side, Toronto’s Lindsay Shotbolt led the East team to a 51-42 win over the West. The 16-year-old forward from Bill Crothers Academy finished with 18 points, and was awarded game MVP by special guests DeMar DeRozan and Sonny Weems.
Bhullar finished with six points in the game, with his family sitting courtside. His mother, Varinder (5-foot-10) and father Avtar (6-foot-4) fed him a lot of Indian food when he was growing up, he said.
In the third quarter, he blocked power forward Steven Jankoic without even jumping.
It’s only been a few years since he realized his potential in basketball. He started playing basketball competitively in Grade 8, and went south to a prep school near Pittsburgh in Grade 10.
In November, Bhullar transferred to Huntington Prep in West Virginia (where Webster-Chan also plays). Since then, under the guidance of head coach Rob Fulford, he’s dropped 40 pounds.
“He’s come a long way in a short period of time,” Fulford said, at the ACC watching Bhullar play. “He still has some work to do, lateral foot speed, things like that. But those are things that will come with time and hard work for him.”
Bhullar recently committed to an NCAA Division 1 scholarship with Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He knows he has a long to way to be a top player in the NCAA, let alone the making the NBA, but says he’s committed to getting there.
He takes a great deal of pride in his South Asian heritage: he hopes do the same thing for basketball in India that Yao Ming did for China.
“If I make the NBA, basically a whole country is going to know that an Indian player made the NBA,” said Bhullar, whose parents moved to Canada 22 years ago.
He’ll be pushed every enormous step of the way by his 16-year-old brother Tanveer — 7-feet-2, size 19 shoes — who is taking his place at Huntington Prep next season. Yes, there’s another one.
Asked which Bhullar was more dominant on the court, Tanveer replied: “Right now he is — because he’s longer and bigger.
“But soon it’s going to be me.”

Ben, it's still a possibility (however small) that Sim reclassifies to 2011 and comes to Xavier for a redshirt year. The coaching staff is still pursuing some one-year players, but if none of them pan out, there's an open scholarship for the season.

SIM looked fairly slim. He played 26 min. in the game and the pictures show that he jumped about 12" off the floor to make his shots; not bad.
I made some Saag Paneer and Chicken Curry in honor of Sim the other night. Well, that and my boys love Indian food. I wonder if he's been to Ambar on any of his visits... best Indian food I've ever had. My saag is close to theirs but not quite there yet.

LIEPAJA, LATVIA-- Sim Bhullar (Toronto, Ont.) poured in 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, while Dyshawn Pierre (Whitby, Ont.) finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds as the Canadian Junior Men's National Team (JMNT) powered past Korea in their first game at the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship.
As this was their first game of the tournament, according to Pierre, coming out getting a win immediately was a big boost mentally for Canada.
"[This win] gave us a lot of confidence," Pierre said. "I know a lot of people were nervous going into the game because it was our first game of the world championships but now we're looking forward to playing Croatia tomorrow."
Bhullar, on the other hand, wasn't too nervous and enjoyed the pressure-packed atmosphere.
"I'm used to [playing under pressure]," Bhullar said. "I know what to do and I'll go out there and try to do my best. I'm not really intimidated or scared. I just want to go out there and play."
Pierre and Bhullar were both very efficient from the floor, shooting a combined 53% from the field, leading a balanced Canadian attack that saw two others reach double digits in Julian Clarke (Toronto, Ont.) who had 17 and Justin Shaver (Ottawa, Ont.) who added 13, including 11 rebounds. Another pairing that finished with 9 points each were Kevin Pangos (Holland Landing, Ont.) and Junior Lomomba (Montreal, Que.).
Seonggon Moon and Seounghyun Lee led Korea with 23 and 25 points respectively.
Coming into the match, it was clear that Canada (1-0) had a size advantage over Korea (0-1), a team that does not have a single player over 6-foot-8, and it capitalized on this by getting the ball inside often resulting in a 70-34 points-in-the-paint advantage.
The only way Korea slowed down Canada's presence inside was by fouling, a strategy that ended up putting the Koreans in the penalty very early in every quarter and was a key contributor to the 37 free throws that Canada attempted. In comparison, Korea only attempted six free throws, but shot 56% from the field, which allowed them to stay within six points at the end of the first three quarters.
However, in the fourth, Canada took control of the game, going on an 11-0 run with a little over seven minutes to play in the frame pumping the lead to 98-83. This cushion would prove to be more than enough as Canada would go largely uncontested for the remaining four minutes of the game.
The win moves Canada into a tie for first place of Group C with Croatia (1-0) after they defeated Lithuania (0-1) 88-75.

Despite some reports yesterday morning, Sim is not at Xavier, nor will be be there in this semester.
CMack said yesterday that there has been a lot of "mis-information out there".
Cannot comment any further.

I want it to be posted here first that if Sim is indeed not going to be here this year, I am calling first claims to the open scholarship at Xavier.

This is exactly what I had heard yesterday.

Pretty sure that it has been known along that issues would be hit along the way, it is possible they got worse this week though

Just to be clear....these "issues" aren't of the type that would make him not eventually come to X, right? It's just a matter of whether it is this year or next year?

He will not be coming this year or ever.

Honestly, I don't think anyone knows, possibly not even the coaching staff or Sim himself at this point

Here's how it went down:
1. Sim mentioned months ago that he and his parents would consider reclassifying to 2011 if the opportunity presented itself in August.
2. It was just mentioned as a possibility. Sim remained a member of the class of 2012.
3. Isaiah Philmore and Andre Walker joined the team, removing the opportunity for Sim.
4. Jalen Reynolds was not going to qualify and decided to prep rather than redshirt. Sim had the opportunity again.
5. Speculation about Sim coming in 2011 was repeated so frequently that speculation became fact for a number of people. It was never a sure thing, because Sim still might decide to stay in 2012 and academic eligibility would be close when moving up a class.
6. People were sure Sim would be here for Manresa, despite no word, but he also was on Manresa lists.
7. Turns out he's not reclassifying to 2012. It seems like it was a strong possibility, especially considering his inclusion on Manresa lists, but it just didn't work out for one reason or another
8. Sim remained a member of 2012. There may or may not have been considerations otherwise, but in the end, nothing changed.
9. Now there's worry that Sim might not come to Xavier at all, since he didn't come early. It's like the jealous girlfriend who is simply jealous because someone has cheated on her before. Keep in mind #1 and #2
Guess what? Sim is at this point still a verbal commitment to Xavier for the 2012-2013 school year. Semaj Christon, Myles Davis, James Farr, and Jalen Reynolds are also verbal commitments in this class. Sure, Sim could still decommit without serious repercussions prior to the Early Signing Period in November, but so could Christon, Davis, Farr, or Reynolds. So, it is possible that Sim could decommit (See: Jordan Latham, D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, Michael Chandler). I'm not denying that it's possible. But it's nothing to fret about, unless you would like to fret about every single non-event or almost-event that doesn't happen concerning Xavier. We'll see who signs letters of intent in a few months. My bet? There are still five members in the 2012 class then.

It didn't take long. He's gone. Interesting turn if events.

I could be wrong, but I thought I read Sim IS reclassifying to 2011, and trying to get eligible at NMSU...

Well, NMST may have some tricks up their sleeves, but....
Good luck with that. At least for the first semester.

Maybe Sim just goes there for a year, then transfers to X. He wouldn't have played so there wouldn't be a need to sit out. :)

A verbal commitment means absolutely zero in terms of being anything binding.

I saw yesterday, on the New Mexico State board, that the NCAA denied their appeal to have Bhuller eligible this season. He will sit out for them just as he would have for us in spite of their so-called connections on this matter.

I think they were expecting him to sit. New Mexico State is a lot cheaper to pay your way through.

This was the expected outcome, regardless of where he went. IIRC, NMSU was cheaper, and there's Canadians he's played basketball with on the team.
Edit: and I'm late to the party with this comment :)
My personal take is that its 50/50 whether he ever plays a minute of NCAA D-I basketball.
