when navy is the home team, they normally play in baltimore rather than on navy's campus. for the 2012 game, navy has opted to move the game even further off campus.

i believe rugby is the most popular sport in ireland, followed by soccer. i don't see the locals being all that excited about football. people who aren't conditioned to american football find it to be extremely boring. it's ten seconds of action (if that) followed by a minute long committee meeting. in a country who's most popular sport is rugby, they may end up being bored to death.
fwiw, i'm not knocking football. i just understand that it is extremely boring to those who aren't familiar with it. this could end up bombing.
navy should have opted to play the game on a naval air craft carrier or something. THAT would have been cool.
This isn't anything new. Navy and Notre Dame played in Ireland in 1996, and I believe the place was a shade under half full.

i didn't realize that.

Yeah, it was actually funny watching on TV and hearing the crowd. People couldn't differentiate between a fumble and an incompletion, so if a player dropped a pass or a ball was overthrown, you could hear the people cheering in excitement like it was a live ball.

with that being the case, i'm not sure why any of those people would want to come back.

Nothing like being in a pub on the Emerald Isle when the Irish National Rugby team is playing in an International Tournament. It is wild, crazy and fun.
Quite frankly, American football with all of it's starts and stops is rather boring when compared to that. Rugby/Irish Football has no padding, lots of collisions and guys get their bell rung all the time.
My wife, my kids and I were in a Dublin pub while the Irish had a match against the French sissyboys a few years ago. My Musketette daughter was especially into it because she was playing women's rugby at XU at that time.
The place was off the hook.

Euros know a lot more about the game now than they did in 1996, but the game is all about promoting Ireland tourism in the USA. It is a made for TV event.

Surprise surprise...MOR is here to complain/bash football. Do me a favor, stop commenting on football. Everyone here knows your stance as complain on nearly all football threads.

No need for all the negativity. Besides, its not MOR commenting on football...just ND football. Although with his connections to St. Eds, I never knew why the animosity existed. No Brothers of the Holy Cross Love?

What complaint and bash? This is fact, bro. I was only commenting on the excitement of being in an Irish pub when there is a rugby match going on. Sorry, syl. Ask any Euro and they'll tell you they think Am football is boring. I say this in the context of an Am football game being played in Ireland and the attempt to get Europe interested. Hey man, deny if you want, but the reality is that the NFL Europe failed too. They don't like our game any more than we like soccer, which, I think, is boring as hell.
To each their own.

My friends in London love the NFL. The games there sell out in a matter of minutes. They also love fantasy football. However they like to draft kickers in the first two rounds.
I'm not sure why the NFL Europe failed. I do know the English love NFL.
The idea of ND playing in Ireland is flat out hilarious. I knew a few people who went and had a hell of time explaining to the locals why they were there. A french school playing the US Navy in American football in Dublin? I can see why they were confused.

i'm showing my nfl ignorance here, but i didn't know they ever played games in europe. i sure as hell didn't know that they sold them out.
my experience has been different. most international students i've met from europe don't know anything about the nfl or college football, and don't really care to learn. i had no idea that people in europe cared about football anymore than we care about cricket.
i do find this comment to be hilarious, though.

They have been playing NFL games at Wembley for like three years now. And they have been sold out every time.

The Dane loves football. Her dad and her uncles are now avid fans. Morten Andersen is a god in Denmark!

I'm not sure why the NFL Germany failed. I do know the English love NFL.

FTFY - it seems like almost all of the teams left were German based when that league shut down. But I'm sure that having actual NFL games and not B-listers has something to do with the games in London selling out.
Besides, there has also been one game in Mexico City (Cardinals hosting the 49ers, I believe) and the Bills have recently started playing 1 home game a year in Toronto.
