Check out some music this week at MidPoint Music Festival

It's so much fun to see all these different bands from around the world and Cincinnati should be damn proud there is such a great event in their city.

You can find full schedule and details at www.mpmf.com, but here are some quick facts.

MPMF QUICK FACTS

MidPoint Music Festival runs Thursday, September 23 through Saturday, September 25
Two local musicians started the festival in 2002 as an event showcasing the large amount of talented local and touring artists who make up Cincinnati’s strong music scene. Cincinnati is a huge music town.
Volunteers who love live music mostly run the festival while it’s happening.
24 stages across Downtown and Over the Rhine. One stage in Newport, KY at Southgate House
250 artists and approximately 270 performances scheduled for the festival
Artists are coming from 9 different countries including USA, Mexico, Japan, Ireland, Guatemala, Germany, England, Canada, and Australia
Artists are coming from 26 of 50 United States
75 acts come from Cincinnati and Northern KY. More than half come from the Midwest.
Bands want to play MidPoint in Cincinnati. We have acts coming from all corners of the country.

TICKETS

3-day wristbands were sold before the festival only and access all showcases within legal capacity rules.
Single-day wristband pass permits admission into all stages on the Ohio side. These passes may be purchased for $20 at any MidPoint venue during the festival. Admission is subject to legal venue capacity.
For those who do not plan on venue jumping, a single venue cover price will be available at the door with prices ranging between $10 and $15, depending on the lineup.
Wristband holders are also provided free, unlimited access to the MidPoint Transit Authority by Metro, running 9 pm–1 am

NOTABLE NAMES
MidPoint has made a strong effort to raise the bar in the sense of booking acts that are on the rise nationally.
The focus is on pioneering, independent-type bands versus major household names.
Best Coast, Caribou, and Tom Tom Club will be headline acts at the largest venue, Grammer’s Bar in OTR
Richard Buckner, Shonen Knife, Fang Island, A Place to Bury Strangers, Surfer Blood, Ted Leo, Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s, Jason and the Scorchers, Elf Power, Phantogram, Royal Bangs, Babe the Blue OX are all big buzz acts
Highly respected songwriter, arranger and producer Van Dyke Parks is making Cincinnati his sole stop in the Midwest. Parks might best be known in the pop world for his work with Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys on the album Smile.
Some locals include Seabird, The Seedy Seeds, The Hiders, You, You’re Awesome, The Lions Rampant, & The Sundresses

Oh, and I'll be out and about watching bands with my beautiful girlfriend. If any guys from the board recognize me, please say hello and I'll buy you a beer. Would love to see the Xavier fans out there. Thanks!

I've been to this the past 3 years and had a great time each year. I'm staying away this year, because I feel they have raised prices too much. Sure, $40 is great for a 3-day pass, but I have a job and can't attend 3-days. If they did $10 (1 night) tix then I'd be in for 1-2 nights.

Anyways, my brother has an extensive blog on MPMF. Check it out.

I'll be there all three nights and I'm pumped. Just waiting for the wife to get home so we can head to Grammers to see Wussy. I highly recommend MPMF to those who have never been.

Not directly. Bill works for 3CDC and is the director of Fountain square and they are a venue. Sean is a lawyer and has a few teaching gigs, but he also works for Soapboxmedia.com as an editor. He worked on some editorial coverage for the festival. They always lend a hand when asked.

The festival is a beast to manage and their regular jobs were making it harder and harder to balance it all. They sold the festival to CityBeat about three or four years ago. Dan McCabe produces it now and I handle a huge chunk of it from the promotion and publicity side.

Last night was a blast and I imagine we'll see larger crowds today and tomorrow. $20 to see a night of this much music is cheap. But if you wanted to spend less you could hang at one club for $10 and still catch four great bands.
