ESPN Announces Big Monday BIG EAST Scheduleo

ESPN and the BIG EAST Conference have announced the 2011 Big Monday Presented by Bud Light schedule of league games. Action commences on Jan. 17 with a special two-game slate beginning with Villanova at Connecticut at 3:30 p.m. ET, followed by Syracuse at Pittsburgh at 7:30 p.m. The schedule runs seven weeks, and concludes with Villanova at Notre Dame on Feb. 28, the final Monday of the regular season. All games start at 7 p.m. (excluding the Jan. 17 doubleheader) on ESPN and are simulcast on ESPN3.com

Eight different teams are featured in the schedule, including four teams ranked in ESPN.com senior college basketball writer Andy Katz’s early men’s preseason top 25 poll: No. 7 Pittsburgh, No. 8 Villanova, No. 17 Syracuse and No. 21 Georgetown.

All eight teams are coming off 2010 postseason berths, including NCAA Final Four participant West Virginia. Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Villanova are featured three times each in the package, while Notre Dame and West Virginia will be seen twice.

This would only be news if they've ever even played on Big Monday. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they have a grand total of zero appearances. Their highlight was losing to an 0-18 DePaul team in the Big East Tournament back in 2009.

half the league doesn't play on big monday, and it's not surprising that uc is in the half that does not.

And there you have the farce that is the ESPN built Big East. ESPN promotes these 8 teams (and ND is no good , but has name recognition) and the rest of the league is not highlighted. People don't associate the garbage that is St. John's, Providence, Rutgers, etc. as the big east. They just look at "Big Monday" and say how tough of a league it is.
