Congrats to Johnny Cueto for kicking Jason LaRue in the head during last night's melee.
I would have paid $100 to kick that guy with baseball cleats right in the face.
Just a total douche.

Maybe, but it'll probably result in him being the only player with a suspension. Others may face fines, but kicking with cleats deserves a suspension IMO?????

2 points.
1. Reds Suck.
2. Cardinals Rule.
Now that you got Rolen and Edmonds, you should look into Larry Walker and Dennis Eckersley's availability.

Brady Anderson and Albert Bell are in contract talks as we speak.

Terrible series. I'm trying to find ways of overcoming the feeling that the Reds are to the Cards what Dayton is to XU. I know Rolen, Votto and Volquez can pick me up, they've...got...to...It's been a fun summer for a change, anyway. It should continue. I'll be in SF for the series in less than 2 weeks. Can't wait for that shit.

Thats probably giving the Reds too much credit.
This is the only year the Reds have threatened the Cards in any way. UD has threatened us more than once.

Thank you for disagreeing with me in any fashion. I needed that. I'm open to all suggestions as to why the Reds are not like Dayton.

IMHO, the fight made up for the sweep. That was awesome.

The Reds have won in St. Louis during your lifetime.

True but they get many more opportunities.
Lets just agree that in the last 10 years they have both sucked. Ya?

The problem I had with the Reds is that it was a risk to start tugging superman's cape at this point. Who know's how it'll shake out, but owning that Central crown will be so much sweeter than kicking Larue in the face (that was sweet though, lol). The pitching was the difference in the series, not the talking, but hindsight will tell us even more, as this series will be remembered for a long while.

What a shock - one bad series and suddenly they're garnering comparisons to the Dayton Flyers? It's not like they're the Dayton Dragons (who ARE having a shitty year) or anything...
But as bad as this sweep hurts, they've still got a huge West Coast roadie looming - particularly the Dodgers and Giants.

The Cards will probably lose 2 of 3 to the Cubs this weekend.
Luckily, in baseball, the Reds don't have to beat the Cards to win the division. They just have to have more wins than the Cards. They are 1 game back. Plenty of baseball left.

Very True. It's not time to panic...yet. However, perhaps Brandon will keep his mouth shut.

The series versus the Cards reminds me of the wimpy kid who always got picked on by the bully...over the summer the wimpy kid lifts weights and walks up to the bully the next year and, feeling confident due to the added muscles, and insults the bully's mother...the bully then proceeds to beat the wimpy kid into submission.
I think the Reds will be ok. They've shown that they can bounce back and the Cards have shown they can lose a series to anyone. Head to head...not so good. But the Reds might have what it takes to win the marathon.

I was in a Cab that drove by that accident the night it happened. My friends and I were going back to campus after a night at some bars and the cops were on the highway directing all traffic off at the exit right before the crash. I remember at the time not knowing who the accident involved but turned to my friend and said whoever was in that car did not survive. He called me the next morning to tell me who it was after seeing it in the news.

Just to emphasize my point again, the Reds/Cardinals fight made it to the top of the Pardon The Interruption list (just heard it on the podcast).
Baseball fights are cool. Brandon Phillips was the force who made it happen. Yes, it sucks to lose 3 games to the Cardinals. But still, the fight was awesome. It brought a lot of attention to the Reds.
No doubt it appears the Cardinals have the better team this year. But the entire fight incident brought the Reds into the spotlight. And perhaps the Cardinals have some doubt in mind when it comes to the central division in the years to come.
Baseball players are really, really, intelligent. Phillips knew what he was doing.

Normally, I'd say that getting swept by the Cards at home to lose a 2 game lead in the division, while very bad, would not be a season killer. However, the particular way in which it went down leads me to believe that it very well could be so demoralizing that it starts a slide that pulls them out of contention.
Phillips ran his mouth, the Cards called him and the Reds out on it and then proceeded to embarrass them on their home field. we'll find out sson enough if that works to strengthen their resolve or force them to the back of the bus with the "also rans".

This is so true. So let's take a look at who's left.

Cons
Make up game possible at Fla
Stretch of 17 out of 20 on the road (where they don't have a good record)

Remaining teams have winning well under .500
Only 9 of remaining games are against a 1st or 2nd place team
No make up games needed
Cons
TWO west coast trips
Stretch of 16 out of 23 on the road (in Sept)
While standings say they're 1 back, they're 2 back in the all critical Loss column
While I'm a Cardinal fan, I believe advantage Reds if they can survive the west coast swings. The 20 of 23 on the road will be a killer for the Cards and the number of games left against contenders won't be easy.
Should be a fun run to the end.

Does the manager's suspensions include the game they were ejected, or is this two more.
Others seem fair. I'm sure Cueto will appeal his.

Not positive but I would guess that they are 2 additional games for the managers.

Were the managers fueling the fire? It looked as if they had words with each other. Is this why they were suspended? I dont think managers get suspended for just the benches clearing alone, they dont have much control over that.

Actually went to the Reds-Marlins game last night - amazing that all they had to do was play someone not named St. Louis and go back to breaking out the lumber. Even with a bad outing yesterday with 6 runs given up in 3.2 innings, his ERA merely ballooned from 1.9 up to about 2.3.
At least tonight's Mick Cronin, err, garden gnome giveaway ensured a sellout.
