I posted here a couple of months back. Just to re-cap quickly, I graduated from SIU in May and applied to Xavier's MBA program. I got accepted to the program, but at the same time I received a job opportunity and I decided to take the job. We'll I've been working for 3 months and I can tell the job isn't really for me, so I've decided to head to Cincinnati and start classes at Xavier in January.
Now, for the questions. I plan on either heading to Cincinnati for a night either this weekend or next. I plan on flying in, so I was going to ask for recommendations on hotels. I obviously won't have a car, and I'm only 23 so I don't think I'm old enough to rent one. Any recommendations? I plan on taking a cab from the airport to my hotel, and cabs from the hotel to check out the city and also Xavier. How are cabs around Cincinnati? Hotels? Any recommendations would be helpful and very appreciated. My first post a while back asked for recommendations on apartment complexes near Xavier that I should check out, so recommendations on that again would help as well, and I will also look at the previous thread I posted.
Sorry if this message is too long, but I appreciate any suggestions you guys give. Thanks!

IHD, I assume you want to budget this as effectively as possible. Obviously, you'll want to check out campus. Downtown is about 10 to 15 minutes away from there. You'll want to check out Mt. Adams as well, which overlooks downtown and so is about that same distance time-wise (places to see up there include The Blind Lemon, Mt. Adams Bar & Grill and the Pavilion; and the Cincy Museum is up in that area, as is the Playhouse).
If you're going to do all this on a tight budget, I'm wondering if you would be better off staying on the Kentucky side of the river. Though you wouldn't have a car - saving on parking - downtown will still be comparatively more expensive than most of your other options. Staying in the 'burbs (e.g. Blue Ash) would be nice, but more expensive due to the cab rides that will be necessary to get you to where you want to go.
In short, you may consider checking out Covington and Newport for hotels and then go from there.
Some of the other guys here will have other ideas as well. And they'll also have a better handle on apartment options around campus.
Best of luck to you. You picked a great school that has a business program that is very much on the rise.

I always travel with Hotwire. Great prices and never had a bad experience. Check for the Airport shuttle symbol before you book. DT Cincy is a ways from the Airport so this could save the first cab bill. Good Luck.

IHD, first congrats on your decision to come to XU and good luck with everything. As an X grad and employee (and completing the MBA program right now) you're coming to a good place.
For your trip to campus, just to put another option out there, I might recommend the SpringHill Suites at Eden Park Drive and Gilbert Avenue (there is a $119 Xavier rate - check for details (http://www.xavier.edu/undergraduate-admission/visit-xavier/hotel-accommodations.cfm)). Certainly more than you'd probably pay on Hotwire, but:
- It's within walking distance of Eden Park and Mt. Adams (which Dash mentioned above)
- You can catch the 4 Metro bus (http://www.go-metro.com/routes/Rt4_053010.pdf) right by the hotel along Gilbert and ride to Xavier (get off near Montgomery Rd and Dana Ave)
- Big, suite-style hotel room
- Free breakfast
You can also catch the 4 bus from downtown, so a downtown hotel on Hotwire could work too. Everything holds except the walking distance to Mt. Adams.
Best of luck.

I believe that you can rent from Enterprise at age 18 or 21 without issue so check into that, plus they usually have cheap cars to rent.

No doubt, you should stay at any of the Covington or Newport name brand hotels. The Marriott or Embassy in Covington are expensive, but they are tits. I recommend Comfort Inn and Suites, but they are booked for this Saturday. They have rooms for $124 for next Saturday, 8/21 and the place is walkind distance to Newport on the Levee.
It is also a short cab ride to Xavier, and you will definitely get more bang for you buck staying in either Covington or Newport. If you can get into that Comfort Inn and Suites, you should jump on it.

1) Welcome to Xavier.
2) Find a way to rent a car. Cabs are not going to cut it for your purposes.
3) Priceline a hotel in Northern Kentucky.
4) If you have the means to live in Mount Adams, then do so.
5) What the hell is your avatar?

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Looks like I'm heading out there next weekend. Oh, and my avatar is my favorite character from my favorite tv show: Omar from The Wire

Calling something "tits" when it's really good...that will never get old. Love it!
