The NCAA's new rules on the subject bar schools and staff from paying a consulting fee "to an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete or to a consulting firm in which an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete has a proprietary or financial interest."

Good. To me, it's akin to schools laundering money to pay prospective agents, or something like that. In fact, the NCAA is pretty slow on the uptake on this one.

I HATE dayton.

You don't say? The NCAA...a little slow in keeping up trends? That's news to me!

Heck, the President of the NCAA probably has a Pet Rock and is rocking out to ABBA...not that there is anything wrong with that.

it's not so much that the schools are laundering money. it's that prospective agents are extorting money. ie: pay me (three hundred bucks to subscribe to my recruiting service for a week, and you'll get to come to these closed tournaments and camps to watch these guys play)

it was actually the nabc, not the ncaa, that took the initiative to get this going, so you're right on about how slow the ncaa can be.

nevertheless, props to them for making a rule that prevents its member institutions from being extorted...
