Hmm...I wonder how that happend. Per twitter:

tsnmike Source close to West Virginia coach Bob Huggins said he broke ribs in fall at his Las Vegas hotel but should be fine. In LV for recruiting.

GaryParrishCBS Source told CBSSports.com that Bob Huggins has been hospitalized in Vegas after falling in hotel room. Broke four ribs. Not heart-related.

As much I as hate the guy, he really needs to get some help. After his heart attack and seeing Skip die of a heart attack, you would think he would wake up and take better care of himself. But it looks like he is in the worst shape of his life and he is still a raging alcoholic.

By the thread title, I thought it meant he broke four ribs while eating at Montgomery Inn. That's why I thought 'Big Deal' happens all the time with Huggs.

Man, I don't care who it is, breaking ribs is one of the most painful injuries you can have, and they really can't do anything to make it better outside of pain medication. I "dislocated" a rib a few years ago, and it was the suck of sucks, holy crap that really sucked.

Let's just hope Hugs doesn't get hooked on the meds now.

I HATE dayton.

There has to be more to it than just a fall. I'm betting that a hooker or his pimp broke the ribs after Huggs tried to stiff them. (pun intended).

I've stayed in hundreds of hotel rooms and numerous ones in Las Vegas. I have never "fallen and broken my ribs".

C'mon. I guess it's possible that because the bloated Thuggsaurus can no longer see his feet over his boiler, he may have tripped over the leg of a bed, but chances are that he was drunk as sheet and just passed out.

That guy gets more mysterious injuries like the bruised face with the black eyes last year.

I'll bet that even after he hit the coffee table, as Warren Zevon once said,- "his hair was perfect."

Pain meds are easy to get hooked on. I got addicted after having a one month perscription to dilaudid. After the meds were gone I didn't pursue them or anything, but I was sick for a week from not having them. They are needed at times but are scary addictive.

I think it was a door that got him that time. I guess you go around puking on inanimate objects, they eventually get their revenge.

Didn't he also walk into a wall last season and had two black eyes? I recall seeing the pics here on this board. He looked like an idiot. I have no doubt both incidents were alcohol related.

Guys like Huggs don't make it in the long run. I wonder if Vegas has odds on when Thuggy Bear will bite the big one. Not wishing the guy any real harm but he is still a first class douche bag.

From the Charleston Gazette (http://wvgazette.com/Sports/WVU/201007240127)

For the third time in 26 months, West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins has suffered minor injuries in a fall.
....
Huggins, whose Mountaineers advanced to the Final Four last season, suffered a heart attack in 2002.

In June of last year, Huggins sported two black eyes and said he had walked into the edge of his bathroom door by accident. Shortly after suffering the black eyes, the coach wore sunglasses while participating in a fundraiser at Berry Hills Country Club in Charleston.

In May of 2008, Huggins stumbled and fell after getting off a plane in Charlotte, N.C., and spent several hours in a Charlotte hospital.

Huggins said the incident wasn't a big deal and, had it been up to him, he would not have gone to the hospital.

According to then-WVU athletic director Ed Pastilong, Huggins was checking his cell phone messages when he tripped over a cone on the tarmac and hit his head.

Pastilong said the fall left a bump on Huggins' head but that the coach never lost consciousness.

Huggins joked about the fall. "Billy pushed me,'' he said, referring to WVU assistant coach Billy Hahn. "He did the same thing to Gary [Williams] at Maryland. The guy has a history of this.''

well, Huggins has an alarming history. WV should definitely look into the matter and require him to get help if needed.

accidental fall

Accidental? Just like that gallon of vodka 'accidentally' went down his blubbering gullet?

Would he make a purposeful fall? Well, maybe into a pool filled with beer.

Doug Gottlieb questioned the fall and its explanation as "suspicious" today on his ESPN Radio show to his credit. I think that the truth will creep out soon enough.

I was thinking about this.

I'm sort of clumsy and have taken some falls. But the big difference between myself and Huggs is that I braced for my fall using my arms to limit impact.

Huggs, in contrast, has suffered serious injuries to his ribs and head (not arms or wrist injuries....when your really, really drunk you don't brace for impact). There has to be 95% chance that alcohol was involved.

Alcohol could definitely be a factor. I think the years of abuse of alcohol played an even greater role. I assume it's taken a toll on his body and his reaction time. Also, he's a massive man. All that weight could easily cause serious damage even if he's preparing for the fall.

I know Huggs is a schmuck and probably doesn't deserve my pity, but I can't help it. I just don't know how someone can have this type of 'accident' and not realize they have a problem that needs fixed. At his age, rehab may not be enough. Once the liver starts to die, it doesn't recover. Even if he stays off the sauce he'll probably need a transplant.

This is really sad.

He's nearly 57. At some point you reach an age where falls with injuries aren't all that uncommon.

I'm practicing for when I'm that age and still in denial about my own alcohol abuse.

About half the people on earth live less than the average life expectancy. Bob's probably going to be one of them.

I'll never forget two comments my brother made.

Eigth years ago or whatever, I called him that Saturday afternoon to tell him Huggins had a heart attack. His response "Don't tease me."
Wow, that's hard core.

Secondly, he once proclaimed that if Bob Huggins was suffocating of dehydration in the desert, he would shove peanut butter in his mouth.

It makes me proud to call him brother.

I can speculate because I'm not a journalist and these are the interwebz.

I don't totally buy this story. I don't understand how you can break (count em') SEVEN ribs simply falling over a table. Pick a table...any table.. Choose one that has a series of metallic death spikes protruding around it's perimeter if you want to. And then try to imagine a way that you could fall over said table and crack seven ribs without suffering any other apparent injury of note.

Then, consider the odds that Huggins was acting like a douche in Las Vegas, perhaps someone's woman was involved, and an offended party(s) "corrected his behavior" with a series of kicks, or swings of a bat, to the sternum.

Couple this with the black eyes from last year. Kind of makes you wonder....

Per Goodman/FoxSports.....

HUGGINS BACK TO WORK AFTER BREAKING RIBS

Bob Huggins has returned to work.

The West Virginia coach, who suffered seven broken ribs in a fall in his hotel room in Las Vegas last month, spent much of the day in his office in Morgantown on Tuesday.

"I'm sore," Huggins told FOXSports.com. "But I'm good. It's good to be back.”

Huggins said he was returning from watching AAU games in Las Vegas around noon and was on the phone in the middle of packing when he stood up, became light-headed and fell into the corner of a coffee table.

"I got up too quick and the medication and having an empty stomach caused me to get light-headed," Huggins said. "When I fell, I had the phone to my ear and couldn’t break my fall."

Huggins called his younger brother, Larry, who came to his hotel room and helped get him to the hospital.

Huggins, 56, spent the next few days in a Las Vegas hospital before cancelling his travel plans for the rest of the July recruiting period. Instead of flying to Kansas City, Huggins went to Florida — where he was able to rest with his wife and children.

"The good thing about getting hurt is they (the recruits) call you," Huggins said. "All I've done for the past couple weeks is rest. There's really not much doctors can do for you."

Huggins said a combination of poor eating habits on the road in July and not being hydrated enough — along with the medication and sitting in a gym for 15 hours a day — contributed to his fall.

"I'm not getting any younger," Huggins said. "But it's tough in July because we don't stop. We run from city to city and gym to gym."

Huggins is coming off his third season and a Final Four appearance as the head coach of his alma mater — where he has compiled an 80-30 record.

So was he already calling his brother? Did he have a premonition of the fall coming? If the phone call being placed was not to his brother perhaps the hooker he was calling didn't have a car in which to drive him to the hospital and he hung up and called his brother. Still seems odd.

Was sitting courtside across from Huggins at the Depaul/WVA game the other night. Needless to say, I was yelling about at him about broken ribs, alcoholism, and his little puppet named Mick for a good portion of the game.
