...Terrell Owens all but begging to be a Bengal. Agent Drew Rosenhaus says that 4-5 teams are interested in Two's services, but neglects to mention that the race is down to the Toronto Argonauts, Montreal Alouettes, Scottish Claymores and Cincinnati's Arena Football2 team.

...Sportswriters and talk show hosts are about to begin a cycle of programming devoted to an aging 40-year-old Viking quarterback. Inevitably he will report to the Vikings around Week 2-Week 3 of the preseason upon completion of 2-a-days and training camp.

...Same writers and talk show hosts will remind us that football is the only sport taking place. Soccer - you had your month in the sun. Baseball - we just don't care about your titilating Royals-Orioles stretch run series.

...The new 2x4 about to be beaten over our heads will be the threat of an NFL lockout in 2011. Of the 4 major sports, they've gone the longest without a labor stoppage. One reason why - we saw what happened in 1987 when replacement players took over for 3 weeks in the season.

...And in the collegiate ranks, we'll be beaten over the head repeatedly about USC's 2-year bowl ban, the next wave of realignment, etc. SEC coaches will complain about agents "ruining the game" while plotting their next NFL/stepping stone NCAA coaching gig.

Anyone else praying for a lockout in 2011 for the NFL or is that just me?

The NFL is just superior sports entertainment compared to all other sports save college basketball during March Madness. It is the shortest season (minus college football, which is inferior with its dumb BCS system) so the games mean the most. With fantasy football anyone can watch any game with rooting interest. Your favorite team can go from last place to playoffs in one year and vice versa. Brett Favre gets annoying but hopefully this is the last year of all that. NFL is KING.

I definitely want to see it. At the very least I would like to see a shortened season.

The NFL is king because it engages casual fans with short attention spans, which is most people. That's not to say that the NFL doesn't have diehard fans. But the NFL really caters to casual sports fans (there's a reason why NFL commentators are all folksy but are complete idiots....casual fans love folksy and don't care about real analysis).

I can't stand it. The ratio between media coverage and actual games played is ridiculous. IMHO, the NFL is overextended.

I cut the NFL out of my life when I got married (had to pick Saturday or Sunday...I picked Saturday). I don't miss it a bit.

Nobody is denying that the NFL is top dog among the major sports, but the media trying to jam it down our throats because of what they've invested in the league also turns off a lot of people.

And if you think that the media will ignore the NFL because of a lockout, you're begging. It will just mean that reporters will be camped out of the NFL and NFLPA headquarters around the clock trying to get their latest reports in. You also have to consider that the networks will pay the owners regardless of whether or not games are played (remember the 1982 and 1987 strikes), and the recipe is taking shape for a lockout at some point, although there will no doubt be pressure from the media and government to ensure that the 2011 season will be played whether in its entirety or in a shortened state.
