Not too many gimmes on that slate. That should get the Hawks ready to compete in the A-10 if Martelli can get them to gel as a unit.

They enhanced their "arena" to schedule 4 home games?

They only added about 1,000 seats to Hagan - I do find it funny that Minnesota is going to play SJU on campus but Rutgers thinks they're too good to do so.

Good lord. Are they going to play any home games? Looks like next years ticket package will be for 20 games at home.

BUILD AN ARENA!!!!!

Here's the problem - St. Joe's does give a damn about winning, but where on campus are they going to build a 7000-8000 seat arena? They weren't exactly packing the Palestra the year that Hagan was being reconstructed, either.

It's a halfway decent schedule, but they've got to get back on the winning track period.

Methinks that is a tough schedule for them. Lots of competitive teams and too much on the road.

How good are their young guys? I remember they got some decent recruits that needed experience.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but all the Philadelphia schools play a lot of "home" games outside of their arenas (whether in the Wells Fargo center or the Palestra).

I think the odd current arrangement leads the Philadelphia schools to not invest much in their own arenas (for example, Villanova plays in just a 6500 seat arena).

Rutgers main campus is only about an hour and a half away from St. Joes, so maybe they think there would be a bigger demand for tickets (yeah i know, its rutgers, so its highly unlikely. but just trying to think what their reasoning might be)

Martelli's son is now an asst. @ Rutgers under Mike Rice who was a SJU asst. before going to Pitt then to RMU so I am sure they worked together and that a game in the Palestra was good for all around. Guy- Only SJU and Nova are the 2 teams that regularly play "off campus" Nova, has serious issues w/ the Lower Merion/ Radnor township in getting an arena built on campus and the Wachovia Center holds 20,000 + for the large BE games. SJU likes to play at the Palestra to get some games in the "city" as their campus is on the outskirts of Overbrook i.e. Xavier and downtown Cincy.

Is it me or do the Hawks always play Villanova on the road?

They'll hever play them in Hagan/the Fieldhouse, but on odd years they go to the Pavilion. Even years (like last season) are in the Palestra.

Well, I just meant they always seem to play them at Villanova. Maybe because they tend to televise that one and not the one when St. Joe's is the home team at the Palestra. I dunno.
