COLUMBUS, Ohio — LeBron James is still welcome at Ohio State.

In October 2009, Ohio State presented James with a No. 23 Ohio State basketball jersey before a Cavaliers exhibition game in Columbus. When Nike created James apparel, the Buckeyes were the first to put his logo on their uniforms in 2007. (The Buckeyes' jerseys have sported only a regular Nike logo for the past two years, but the Buckeyes still wear James' shoes.)

Though James left Cleveland, Ohio State coach Thad Matta hopes his team continues its association with James on some level. "In my opinion, LeBron still loves Ohio, still loves Ohio State," Matta said Wednesday. "I hope that he remains a huge fan of ours because I'm still a huge fan of his. In my position, it's more who he is as a basketball player, not who he's playing for.

"Obviously, I view LeBron as one of the all-time greats. I do wish he would have stayed in Cleveland."

This is point number one of why I was never a fan of LeBron.

He loves Ohio State. Then he shows up at Kentucky. He loves Michigan State, but he would have gone to Ohio State if given the chance.

miami is at ohio state this year. god, i would love it if lebron showed up decked out in canes gear....or maybe a heat jersey and a canes hat.

He'd do worse wearing Michigan or SEC gear as opposed to the U gear - Buckeye fans have inferiority complexes over many things, but Miami ain't one of them. A Heat jersey would be a reason to go, though.


You're making the assumption that people actually give a damn about Ohio State basketball.

They do, provided it's basketball season. But in the Columbus sports calendar, there's football season, basketball/Blue Jackets season, spring football season, and waiting for football/orange barrel season.

okay. then it's settled. he needs to wear a heat jersey and a michigan hat and he needs to scream at the top of his lungs in support of miami throughout the entire game. and, of course, miami needs to win and he needs to run around like a banchee celebrating.

ohio sports fans do have a lot of inferiority complexes. they go ballistic over virtually nothing. when something happens that legitimately warrants going ballistic over, you REALLY get to see a show. that's what i want to happen. i think what lebron did stinks, but if it pisses off ohio state fans who are also cavs fans, then i'm okay with it.
