Votto is now one of the Final Vote candidates along with Heath Bell, Carlos Gonzales, Billy Wagner, and Ryan Zimmerman. The Reds are going to have to have a strong media push since they won't have any home games during Final Man balloting.

Ya, there are a lot of good NL first basemen and guys with a bigger name. He should have been in over Gonzalez though number wise. Pujols will always be the starter and deservedly so. Manuel was obviously going to pick Howard and Howard has good numbers. Votto did have a better avg and more home runs than Howard but a couple less rbis.

A similar thing happened with a player from my favorite team. Mike Pelfrey didnt make it. I am not surprised though. There are a lof of really good staring pitchers in the NL and bigger names too. Halladay and Jiminez were obviously going to make it and Josh Johnson as well with some great numbers. Pelfrey had better numbers though than Hudson and Lincecum but both are bigger names.

On a side note Griffey Jr received over 1 million votes. Haha The fans want what they want.

Check out Taylor Teagarden's vote total and then check where he has spent most of his season.

Jayson Stark is not happy with the Votto snub.

Hopefully he gets voted in by the fans.

In fairness to Gonzalez he was the only Padre selected even though his team has a 3.5 game lead in their division.

I will vote for Votto for the final spot, though Bell and Wagner are having terrific years.

He should have been easily voted over Ryan Howard, but since Ryan Howard just signed that big contract, the Philly GM told Manuel there is no way you can keep him off the all star team.
Votto's numbers are way better than Howard, better than Gonzalez, and comparable with Sir Albert. It was very much a shame.
I already voted for Votto. Hopefully you will do the same.
Runner, sorry about your Cubs being so terrible, and I know your Votto comment was out of frustration that the Reds dismantled the Cubs this weekend. If I were Sweet Lou I would resign tomorrow. That team and franchise is a mess.

Yeah Votto was a huge snub. I dont think Howard getting picked by Manuel has anything to do with his contract though. He has good numbers and he is on Manuels team. It was pretty much a no brainer that Howard would be on the team.

The question is now if fans around the country realize, or care, what a snub Votto was and if they will vote him in. Initially I didnt think enough people around the country would vote for him, but with every article that has been written about the All Star game including how big of a snub Votto was, I think he has a good chance to win the vote.

Just got out of the car and I was listening to Cowherd. Anyone else hear him? He was not buying the Joey Votto snub. He said Votto isnt even close to the player the other three guys are and that he plays in a hitters park and the most rbis he has ever had is 84. He said Votto wasnt picked by the managers or the players and he thinks that is because they know Votto isnt as good as the other 3. He went onto say sure Votto is having a good first half but that doesnt guarantee you the All Star game, especially when they have as many good first basemen as they do in the NL. He said if you are going to be stat geek he is going to bring up where you play, Joey Votto has 13 homeruns at home and 6 on the road.

I have always thought Cowherd was sort of a douche. He thinks everything he says is fact. He was definitely rustling some feathers today though. He said he was getting all sorts of F you emails from Ohio.

GABP is definitely a hitters park, but the Phillies play in one too. Stupid argument by Cowherd

I was listening to Cowherd.

There's your mistake. Cowherd is another Skip Clueless. Two morons who have just enough knowledge of sports to sound like they might know what they're talking about. The truth, however, is that they're both idiots.

He said if you are going to be stat geek he is going to bring up where you play, Joey Votto has 13 homeruns at home and 6 on the road.

Someone should call Cowherd and let him know his stats will need to be updated. After today's game, Votto has 13 HR at home and 8 on the road. He hit two against the Mets...at their place. For the record, Ryan Howard has 7 on the road and only 8 at home in a hitter's park.

If he were on the Cubs it might double their win total. That is a pathetic organization. They're the Pirates with more money and a more loyal following.

ha, yeah, he loves to piss people off. I know stats are boring on the radio. But Cowherd completely ignores them.

I don't blame Jerry manuel. Picking Votto over his own player would have created a big distraction in the locker room. The press would have made it an issue.

It's just a bad system. Jerry Manuel shouldn't be in the position to make that decision.

Colin Cowherd is radio for the lowest common denominator. His opinion is solely based on what will get him bigger ratings. Often times he sticks to the one stat that backs up his "opinion" and ignores everything else. In this case he stuck to road home runs as his quantifiable number, and a day later that number has already been corrected to favor Votto. One of his go to tactics is to hammer all things Ohio, because Ohio is a big and active talk radio market. Call Ohio small market = tons of emails, calls, and listeners.

Some very basic splits:

Home OPS: 1.029
Road OPS: 1.004

Howard, OTOH, appears to largely be a product of his ballpark.

Home OPS: .925
Road OPS .786

OPS is a basic stat, but essentially it shows that Votto is an elite hitter home and away, while Howard is very good at home and a notch above league average on the road. After his stats fell apart, he'll hammer home the "small market, popularity, multiple seasons of success" gibberish. Trust me, that's what he'll talk about today.

I can't stand Cowherd. How does he think Votto doesn't deserve to be on the all-star team? He's special. He's trying to get you Cincy fans riled up so that he can get hate-mail and talk about it all show or something.

I wonder if Cowherd has changed his tune given the fact that every ESPN baseball pundit has called the Votto snub one of the worst ever.

Last night Buster Onlney said it's laughable that Votto is up for the fan vote considering he's a top 5 MVP candidate right now.

Ya, the thing is everyone was saying all that right away. Cowherd still chose to say otherwise. He is a major doucher. But his does draw an audience.

Ahhh, Jack Armstrong. That guy was nuts.

I worked at Riverfront in 1990 (attended every home game, awesomenesstivity) and after he pitched, after the game, he would run the stadium steps. It was insane, we would be cleaning up, and here he would come, jogging past us in a wife beater, cleats, and a shirt wrapped around his head. Virtually every game. That teams was full of the weirdest guys ever.

I HATE dayton.

The National League finally wins for the first time in 14 seasons - whoever wins the NL pennant can thank Brian McCann for his 3-run double.
