as good as they are musically, Geddy Lee probably still sounds like someone is stepping on his nads while he sings.

It has been years since I've seen them in concert (I saw them twice)- the one thing that always impressed me was that they really put on a show. It isn't just a bunch of guys singing and playing - they add so much to the whole atmosphere. Really, seeing Rush isn't just a concert - its a total event.

The reason I ask is that I am supposed ot be in Toronto for work over a weekend and they are playing their that night, so my options for eveing entertainment are go see Rush, go see Second City, or drink alone

I'm a huge Rush fan...seen them 10+ times all over the Midwest. They are absolutely incredible in concert. I've witnessed quite a few marginal fans turn into fanboys after seeing a live show. Neil's 10 minute drum solo is worth the price of admission by itself. Unbelievable!

I will say this - my cousin got backstage passes to the Riverbend show last summer and he said that Geddy Lee is a d*ck. He also got to watch the show just offstage and said that he thought Geddy might have been lip synching.

Still a great show...

I just checked stubhub and i can land a floor seat in row 23 for $200, i may due that instead of paying $135 for a seat in the section opposite the stage in the lower bowl

I know seeing them in concert wouldn't change my mind about them. I don't care how great the music is (and they are unbelievable musicians) Geddy Lee cannot sing, and it totally ruins it for me. There are a lot of bands out there that people tell me "Well, if you'd only see them live you'd feel differently" (i.e. Dave Matthews, Phish, Bruce Springsteen, etc.), but I wouldn't. The only band that was able to sway my opinion of them after seeing them live was Blues Traveler, and that had a lot to do with them doing a harmonica driven version of "Devil Went Down to Georgia"....It didn't hurt that they were playing with Collective Soul and Live either.

Having said all that, I have heard that Rush puts on a great show, and if you're in Toronto, nothing would beat seeing them on their home turf (if you're a big fan of theirs).

Amazing thing about Rush is how they generate the sound live from 3 guys only. IThat being said, I've seen them twice and always suspected that they had some background "help" from computers, synths or other artificial stuff so that they can reproduce the recorded sound live- and Lee may lipsynch. That does not take away the fact that they are great musicians and can really play. I've been a big fan of theirs since the '70's. There is a lot of complex stuff that three guys have to do to produce a big live sound. I've never seen them with back-up musicians.

I would definitely take the chance to see them in Toronto, as xnatic said- on their home turf. The Canucks will go crazy for their own.

When they play live Geddy is also playing keyboard parts with his feet while he is singing and playing bass. This allows them to get their full sound with only the 3 of them.

You are in Canada. There are basically no rules in the strip clubs.

It's been about 25 years since I saw them but from what I remember the put on a great show. OF course, this was in their heyday right after Moving Pictures and Signals came out. I couldn't tell you a song they wrote after 1989 or so, but from 1980-1988 the put out some fantastic music. It would be worth it to hear those songs live again.

Ugliest Man in Rock and Roll (Or at least biggest nose):

-Geddy Lee
-Steven Tyler
-Keith Richards
-Rick Ocasek

Debate and Discuss.

(I don't know about Lee, but the last 3 could still pull hot chicks, despite having faces that caught fire and were put out with track shoes.)

Steven Tyler's a man? I thought that was just Joan Rivers' rock-n-roll name.

Eddie Van Halen is Extremely ugly. There's a joke in there somewhere.

I have seen Rush 3 times in the 80's and 90's. They are better live than other bands that have been around 30+ years, but I am not a fan of seeing groups this far past their prime, no matter how big a fan I am of their early stuff. I've seen a couple concerts and clips on VH1 Classic. Maybe worth $40 if you're a fan, but not triple digits. I am a cheapskate, so this has to be factored into my recommendation.

I see them every time they come into town. Hubby got me hooked. I don't listen to recordings unless he plays them. But live, there's no comparison. These guys LOVE being on stage and you feel it. I don't think Geddy lip synchs. He sings in a different key than the original recordings because his range has changed. I'm a big snob when it comes to quality vocals but Rush gets a pass from me on this. They are just awesome.

I got a kick out of the VH-1 showing last Saturday of their behind the band movie. I'm surprised anyone would say Geddy is a jerk. He and Alex seem like real cut-ups. Neil is the shy one and often gets the rep of being stuck up because of the shyness and being the more intellectual one of the group.

Rush is amazing live. As MOR stated, for 3 guy to put on that kind of show is something to see. You will not be disappointed.

Unless the guy is hoarse, I don't see any way people can say Geddy Lee is that bad a singer. Some people will critique anything.

Because I enjoy listening to people like Eva Cassidy, Steven Tyler, Amy Lee, Ann Wilson, Steve Perry, Sebastian Bach, and all other people that don't sound like an elf or a hobbit when they sing.
