I'm not sure the Pacer's knew what they were doing during the draft. Part of me really thinks they had their eye's set on Hayward and when he was drafted at 9 they had to scramble for a pick at 10 and took someone in a similar mold (6' 8" kid who can shoot)

The Stephenson pick is a little confusing as well but they need guards so maybe O'Brien can get more out of Stephenson that Ole Micky did which shouldn't be hard.

Actually, Pacers felt pressure to draft Hayward, but were relieved because they got the guys they were interested in.

With Granger being the man their now, they wanted someone who'd develop over time. They've drafted front court players more recently and didn't want to push them to the side. The point guards in the draft didn't make a compelling choice over drafting a guy who could develop into something more down the road.

They were also interested in Stevenson much earlier and had tried to buy another 1st round pick from someone so they could draft him. They also tried to move up in the 2nd round for him. None of that worked, but he was still available at 40. They definitely wanted him and at that draft spot they didn't really risk much.

with granger being the man their now, they wanted someone who'd play the exact same position.
