"We are back to normal now, just last year we were on the wrong side of the fence," Cronin said. "We lost five or six games where, if they go the other way, we are wondering, 'Is he going leave, because they are offering him jobs. He is 39 years old, he rebuilt Cincinnati, he fixed all their problems,' so it goes both ways. That is part of my business. That is never going to change."

What's the color of the sky in Mick's world?

Great stuff.

Of course, there's no mention as to his involvement in those losses...

Classic. If UC just one 5 or 6 more games in a 30 game season, they would have had a pretty good season.

I'm pretty sure the same thing happened 2 years ago as well.

"If we had just won all of our close losses we would have had a pretty good season"...

Really?

"We are back to normal now. We are on the wrong side of the tracks," Cronin said. "We got lost going to five or six games, and the players are wondering, 'Where is he going? They offered him a job? He is 39 years old, he screwed up Cincinnati, he is the root of all of our problems.' That is part of my business. You have to play road games. Someone has to finish at or near the bottom of the Big East. That is never going to change."

Sorry for the double post, but everyone should seriously read that article. I particularly like the part near the end where he talks about 'addition by subtraction'. Apparently their problem last year was that they had too much talent. Who knew?!?!

By all that is holy, are you kidding me?

Now the YTG's spin is that he had "too many players" last year? Isn't that what a coach dreams of and a decent coach knows how to use them?

Seems to me that Xavier had a ton of guards, but somehow CMack figured out a way to work them all in to a cohesive unit, although with some early struggles.

The blarney that is spewed from the jaundiced leprechaun's mouth is unbelieveable.

Wow, thank you. Seriously, I can't stop laughing.

The final sentence of that article should be "Now right down the street at Xavier..."

Looks like the men are working in the off-season.

I love this quote:

"But when you step back and say, we have won more games every year, you fixed all these problems, injuries along the way, had to deal with a whole lot of stuff along the way, had to do it through presidential change, budget crisis and all these things nobody is very concerned with but they are real, I am proud we have been able to re-establish and have a program again in the Big East."

So the budget crisis and a new President are to blame for sUCks failure? Really?

Wow.

What is amazing about those excuses is that all of those problems are self inflicted by UC. None of that is from the outside. Basically he should just say that " we suck at handling our money and we ran a shitty program that our president had to clean up and since everyone hated her she scrammed for a better job."

Budget crisis? Every freakin university in the country is dealing with a "budget crisis".

Still...doesn't XU have about 1/10th the endowment and resources of UC?

As for whom it will be, Mack couldn't venture a guess, but feels more than confident it will be somebody.

"I don't want to anoint anybody until they put in the work," he said. "I really like the way our guys are working.

What? We must not have a player like Sean Kilpatrick because Mick has already annointed him.

I never seen a guy talk out of both sides of his mouth as much as Nome does. Too many players? WTF? then, don' play all of them, use a set rotation. It's called coaching.

All he does is whine: president change, budget crisis...whah, whah, whah. What does a budget crisis have to do with being a good coach and getting your team to win?

He's truly hilarious and delusional. If I don't know better, one would think he coached at UD.

I am quite sure my endowment is far more than anyone from UC.

One thing that Cronin consistently does is throw his players under the bus. I wonder how four year starter Deonta Vaughn feels about Cronin's comment that "we probably needed to have a couple of guys not be with us. Whether it be a graduation or go pro, whatever, so we can be more cohesive."

I'm sure Lance Stephenson liked reading that he was also the problem with last year's team.

If I were recruiting against Cronin I would send this article and the article where he implied that Yancy Gates is an untalented player who doesn't work hard, and tell the recruit, "When the chips are down, this is what Mick Cronin says about his players."

Mick Cronin is basically a chickenshit. When trouble arises, he blames everybody but himself.

Ding Ding Ding!!!

Why anybody wants to play for him is completely beyond me.

Apparently, the players don't want to play for him which is why UC tends to tank at the end of the season.

Easily one of my favorite threads since I became a member to XavierHoops years ago. I was a little bummed when Huggins left because I didn't think anyone they'd hire would come close to matching my disdain for him. Mick is doing just fine approaching that level thanks to assinine comments like these.

I cannot believe this guy is leading a Division one basketball program...he is about as delusional as you can get and NEVER takes responsibility for his poor results on the court

Wow.

Here's the ultimately irony that we're all missing - if not for UC's "budget crisis," YTG would already have been fired and UC may actually have a hungry young up-and-comer coaching for them now.

You can tell by the look in his eyes he's the most insincere man on the planet. He thinks the world is out to get him. He'd just as soon hit you from behind, as he's done time and again with his players. I don't think he really thinks much of Vaughn, a guy who sacrificed so much for him. When Vaughn finally graduated from UC with a degree, all Mick could say was, "I feel sorry for him, he's got a family to feed." What a friend indeed!

Is anyone really surprised by any of those comments though really? I've never heard a coach EVER tell the truth about their team whether they were winning or losing. When a team is winning a lot coaches like to point out that they should have done something better or things they should work on, keep the players hungry. When a team is losing coaches like to look at the positives, try to keep the spirits up. Prosser, Huggins, Miller, all of them did it in bad times.

Speaking of YTG, the Reds are having a garden gnome giveaway on Saturday the 14th against the Marlins. I wonder if this would be the ideal XavierHoops Reds game.
