I'm planning to take Flag Day off, so I am soliciting suggestions on a good 3-day weekend trip from Cincinnati. I'll be leaving after work on Friday and can return late Monday. Anyone have a favorite trek?
I'm thinking Philly might be too far, but I've never visited the City of Brotherly Love.
Nashville has CMA Music Fest going on that weekend, so I figure that's a no go - hotels will be booked and everything will be packed with people.
Pittsburgh could be an option, but I don't know what there is to do/see.
Chicago could work, but I was just there, so I'm looking for something new.
Also, the girl won't be up for camping or any type of "roughing it" without some strong persuasion so that limits ideas, too.
Any help???

We always camped there but you dont have to. That place is like a playground for adults.

I'm really good at coming up with travel ideas. I will not dissapoint here.
Go up to Canton to visit the football hall of fame. It's perfect for a 3 day weekend (not only is there the football HOF, but akron and cleveland are close by).
Philadelphia????? DC is closer with more stuff to do.
But still, I'd choose Canton.

I'm in Nashville and there seems to be plenty of hotel and motel rooms available..One note--Opryland hotel, the giant entertainment center north east of the city is closed and probably will be until December--flood. Ditto for Oprymills mall right next to the hotel. There is still plenty to see and do, here though.
If you are doing a three day weekend I also suggest Gatlinburg near Knoxville, about five hour drive from Cincy, and just east of there is Ashville,
and the Vanderbilt estate, which the girl might like. If you go the other way from Nashville there''s memphs but the drive is slightly longer.
I personally like Indianapolis for a number of reasons. There are plenty of good accommodations, the Eideljorn Museum is fascinating, and the Children's Museum is a must no matter how old you are. :D

St. Louis is a cool city, I'm heading there over the July 4th weekend. Lots to do and only 6-7 hours drive.

If you drive 5 under the speed limit and stop 10 times.
St. Louis would be a good weekend trip.

Agree with Q, Gatlinburg is nice. Took the wife to a B&B and visted the Vanderbuilt estate. Very cool.
Have heard many good things about Gettysburg.

You could visit Dayton and tour all of the empty buildings which either used to have a business in them, or never did. That city is dead enough it's bound to take three days to see them all.
And you could catch a Dragon's game.

If I had the choice, I'd go, in order of preference:
1) Nashville
2) Chicago
3) Indy
If money is not an issue, I'd buy a last minute plane ticket to Nassau, Bahamas.

It sounds like you want to find a good city and explore it. You should clarify that, because Put-In-Bay is a great idea if you want more R&R (including alcohol) than sight seeing.
Asheville and the Vanderbilt estate are very solid recommendations.
Pittsburgh actually is a great town (I lived there for about 15 years). Great museums, great neighborhoods and good food, a beautiful downtown, Mt. Washington, etc. If you decide to go there PM me and I'll provide a few more details.
If you want to go up that way, can splurge and really want to chill out, then:

Put both Toronto and Montreal into the mix. Short plane flights, good exchange rates, plenty of things to do. I might mention that there is a very cool island in the Toronto harbor you can reach by a very short ferry ride with a clothes optional beach, if that kind of adventure might wet the appetites, so to speak.
I have a warning about the Philly airport, among the worst in the country for on time and baggage.
If you like outdoors but the woman wants a shower and a warm bed at the end of the day, the area around Asheville, and in particular the Grove Park Hotel, are fabulous. The aforementioned Vanderbilt Estate, and there are thirty or forty nice waterfalls available on a day drive in the Pisgah Forest.
I know this will evoke screams of anguish, but Cleveland and Detroit both have some great attractions. I was prepared to hate the Rock HOF, but it was great. In Detroit, if you have never done the Henry Ford and Greenfield Village complex, something everyone should do at least once. Both have great new ball parks.

.
I don't get to say this often, but I agree with Emp 100% on this one. If you haven't been to Asheville, I'd strongly suggest this trip. If you can't stay at the Grove Park, at last get there for a drink on the patio.
