NY Times' extensive article re: UK's Eric Bledsoe.....
N.C.A.A. Is Looking Into Former Kentucky Player
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Two years ago, Eric Bledsoe was a star point guard without the grades to meet the N.C.A.A.’s minimum standards and needing to find a new high school. He solved both problems by moving to A. H. Parker High School and now, after one season at the University of Kentucky, he is awaiting a lucrative payday in next month’s N.B.A. draft.
The changes in Bledsoe’s academic and athletic prospects have attracted the attention of the N.C.A.A., which has sent investigators to at least three places in Alabama to ask about him. The N.C.A.A. does not talk about its investigations, and the scope of this one is unknown.
But Bledsoe’s academic makeover and the extra benefits he apparently received could be another blow to Kentucky Coach John Calipari, who led teams at Massachusetts and Memphis that had their records and Final Four appearances expunged after rules violations were found under his watch.
Interviews with those connected with Bledsoe’s life in Birmingham revealed potential violations.

I'd say I love it if the whole thing weren't so damn depressing as a whole. When uneducated and uninformed yet talented young men meet those to whom they represent nothing but a paycheck something bad is going to happen.
Calipari will not go down with this ship either. He will be on the next plane with Lebron, World Wide Wes, and a boatload of money to Cleveland, Chicago, New Jersey etc.
And I will be glad. The man is a stain on the game. Period.

Here's the observations of a rabid UK blogger
re: current EB situation......
Some Quick Thoughts on Bledsoe Story
I turned my phone off to go to a movie, and then all heck breaks loose. If you missed it, earlier tonight the New York Times released a story suggesting that the eligibility of Eric Bledsoe was being investigated by the NCAA. The story deals with two major issues, the first being the “improbable” (the word used by the NY Times) likelihood that Bledsoe could have gotten eligible based on transcripts procured by the NY Times of Eric Bledsoe’s high school records. The second is the allegation that $1,200 of rent was paid by Bledsoe’s high school coach to a landlord during Eric’s Senior year. We will deal with these more later this weekend, but a couple of thoughts:

I am shocked - I thought they wouldn't go after him until UK won a title or, at the very least, a Final 4.

Will Bledsoe Investigation Send Cal to the NBA?
Will the NCAA’s investigation of former Kentucky guard Eric Bledsoe send John Calipari packing for the NBA?
At least one NBA agent says Yes.
“Obviously, if something’s going to go down at Kentucky, that would be the third school [that Calipari's impacted].
“I would think that that would expedite something.”

I'm also waiting to hear things about World Wide Wes. I've heard some people praise him, but I think he's very, very shady.

I've heard a lot about WWW's influence and power in the game. What I've never heard is what his actual job is and where he gets his money.

WWW is only shady if you try to force "amateur college hoops" into the picture. Get rid of the ridiculous 1-year-out-of-high-school rule in the NBA, and a lot of this stink goes away.
That said, it only took Calipari 1 year to have an ineligible player this time? The guy's either slipping, or at the top of his game -- not sure which one.
If this turns out to be true, Calipari might be at the end of his coaching rope. 3 straight college stints with an ineligible player. And he'd be a miserable NBA coach (but not before someone paid him > $10M)

Smileyy, I agree with one exception, like "integrity in baseball," there is no truly amateur college hoops in the world of the John Caliparis and Kentuckys, and Memphis, and Connecticut, andKansas, and ...Oh hell, the list is too damned long.
But I have questions. Why'd the NCAA wait so long? Don't they have a clearing house that is supposed to HANDLE THESE MATTERS BEFORE THE KID CAN EVEN GET INTO SCHOOL AND BE ELIGIBLE?
All I can say is Prairie View AT&T better beware.

UK Issues Statement;
Cal’s Mother Has Cancer
Kentucky issued the following statement in response to the New York Times article about the NCAA investigating Eric Bledsoe’s high school record.
“Often high profile student-athletes are selected for an extensive prospective student-athlete (PSA) review. Eric Bledsoe participated in the normal academic review process and also an extensive PSA review by the NCAA Eligibility Center and was cleared academically.”
In other Kentucky news, head coach John Calipari revealed on his Website that his mother, Donna, is battling cancer and that he would need to focus on her for the near future.
