Are they considering joining the MAC for all sports?

I'll believe that Temple is leaving the A-10 the day Mark McGwire admits to using steroids. On second thought.....

Where did you hear that rumor?
I never claimed McGwire did not use steroids but that is not the purpose of this thread.
I heard that the MAC gave Temple an ultimatum to either join for all sports or you can't be in our league for football. The source I have is highly suspect and that is why I asked the question here to see if more knowledgeable people might know of something or heard this same rumor.

I think "xxxhole" is one word, not two as you have proposed.
You'd know.
I typed it that way in case is was a "blocked" word.

Wow, this thread got interesting and off topic quick. How about the two of you go buy each other a beer and then slug it out if you both are gonna carry on like this?
Sorry, but thats how I feel about off-topic arguments. I'm sticking to it.
Now, regarding Temple and leaving the A-10? It's Temple's choice. Where do they want to put their money in? Basketball, I assume, is their bread-winner right now. But if they move to the MAC, then clearly they are indicating that they want to pursue football. Interesting delima.

I had no interest taking the thread off topic. Take it up with 87.
I wonder what football programs in the MAC (if any) actually make money. I think Temple would be doing themselves a disservice by letting football drive their athletic bus.

Bless both you and 87, seeing as I have no personal quarry with either. However, as the saying goes, it takes 2 to tango.
In terms of football revenue from the MAC? Well, certainly while their basketball contracts blow BBC's wang (it's about the only thing willing to - too far?), their football programs are starting to pick up steam. They have three automatic bowl bids and Temple's program is starting to gain some momentum. I have to think that your typical MAC school uses football as their primary source of income, however, that's not saying much. Temple is also no typical MAC school. Their program would be forced into a one-bid league for basketball, which is justified when you actually watch MAC basketball. Grant it, they've made some runs as of late...but let's face it, the A-10 would wipe the floor with the MAC year in and year out.
Clearly my thread topic begged 87 to interject with a McGwire comment. Again, take it up with 87.
Does anyone know which MAC football programs make money, if any?

BGSU did during the Urban Meyer years, and a couple after that. Miami is an open wound, bleeding money if I understand it correctly from my sport management courses. Temple might be making headway, which is the only reason why they'd even consider moving to the MAC. Toledo used to. Kent and Akron don't. Ball State did for a year, maybe the year after.
MAC football fans are fickle and cheap unless their team starts winning. Then they buy in for a couple of years, and bail.

An ultimatim would not make much sense to me. Temple would have peempted that when they joined for football only or they should have.
Notre Dame works the split association well but of course they are Notre Dame. Temple's
and every one else is going to watch closely what happen with the Big 10 and then the dominos.

Doesn't sound like being a MAC school for football is all that profitable since many in the league lose money each year.
Also, Temple was kicked out of the Big East for football for a reason. Their fan base is not that great either.

Their fan base for basketball is pretty pathetic also. They are lucky to sell out the lower bowl. Every time I see them on TV the upper arena is empty. I guess Philly is divided with so many schools and with Villanova being there I guess that gets all the basketball support by people with no allegence.

Temple does the MAC a favor by playing football with them. They get pub in a big market- Philly- that the MAC never would otherwise.
Temple won't be leaving the A-10 for the MAC. They'll keep their options open in case the Big Greased comes crawling back to them after Rutgers, Pitt and Syracuse get plucked by the Big 10 and ACC respectively.
Talk about the shoe all of a sudden being on the other foot.

Just to add about the revenue for MAC schools. Found this on Ohio's message board...
The OU football team collected $787,211.50 in ticket revenue for the 2009-2010 season, and men's basketball raked in $267,816.75.
If this is legit, I'm sure Temple people are struggling to make the right choice. Even if MAC schools aren't bringing in a lot of money, there might be advantages to keeping the Temple football program going.
What did OU football net though.

Temple going to the MAC for all sports, not going to happen. They'd be better off aligning with the CUSA football schools.

BG did not make money while Urban was there. They may have during Brandon's first few seasons, specifically Josh Harris' senior year when they hosted Gameday and lost 2 games (both to MU). The only way MAC programs break even and survive is on "buy games."
Last year there was discussions amongst BG fans whether a bowl was a good or a bad thing, the amount of money lost by going to a bowl game for a mid-major is astronomical.
BG lost over 1 million on football last year. A year where they hosted Boise State, had the nations leading receiver and went to a bowl. The terms "making money" and "MAC football" do not go together.

Booooooo. The insults that would rival any 4th grade argument at recess was quite entertaining.
As for the topic, I have no information or anything but I agree with (can't remember who said it) when they said that it would not make any sense for Temple to make this move now. Why choose a new conference before the "Super-conference" alignments happen.
I think they wait for the changes and hope to get invited back to the Big East football conference or go with the C-USA teams.
It would be completely stupid for Temple to join the MAC for all sports. Whoever thinks they would do that (probably the person who started the thread) is a tard.

I agree that is would be stupid for Temple to do this and I would be shocked if they did. I also agree that you are a tard.
