Now that we know Anderson is coming back at Richmond and Wright is coming back at Dayton, I was wondering who people thought would be next year's A-10 POY.
I love the choices listed and voted Holloway by default, but I'll bet anyone here a keg of their favorite beer that a Xavier player will not win A10 POY. We couldn't even get the coaches to give it to the best player those losers had seen in a few years this past season. How in the name of David West are we going to get the benefit of the doubt this time? First person who wants to jump on my bet, PM me, and I will gladly send you a keg next March if one of our guys proves me wrong. And I'll take Smithwicks, unless you're feeling cheaper then I'll just take Yuengleng.

end of the year voting is the only way most of the A-10 coaches can "beat" Xavier. Bush Leauge

Don't forget preseason rankings. Xavier is a truly unique program in the way it's perceived.

Yeah, Xavier's program is very much an enigma as far as national perception. I can't think of a peer program that's treated similarly.
Here you have a program of sustained success over the last 20 years, along with consistent postseason success over the last 7 with people often commenting on how such success "isn't new" to Xavier, and yet we get these little reminders of disrespect. The year we went to the Elite 8, we were like preseason 24, which is lower than what Dayton was this season before they crashed and burned.
Not really upset or anything...just kind of a head-scratcher.
EDIT: Sorry, this post probably more aptly belongs in the preseason top 25 thread.
I voted before I realized it was A-10 POY. ESPNTU will be the Xavier POY, but no Xavier player will win the A-10 award.
It will more than likely be Anderson again.

I voted for Cheeks. He's going to be awesome next year. He will totally not win the A10POY.

If Justin Martin wins POY we would need to be a little concerned with him jumping early.

King Kenny!
One guy who I think could work his way up to first or second team if he keeps working all summer and develops a more confident jumper is Jamel McLean. He played really well down the stretch last year and could be a rebounding machine and primary scorer to go along with great defense for us. If the trend of strong senior years keeps up look for Jamel to turn it up a notch this year, which with his athleticism could make him a special player. For similar reasons I think we'll see a better, more consistent, and always clutch Dante Jackson.

The question about McLean is whether he can expand his game to be a producer on his own, or if his game will be exposed more as he's asked to produce. The comparison I'm making is CJ Anderson 2008 vs. CJ Anderson 2009. When XU had fewer perimeter options, teams knew they could pack it in on Anderson when he had the ball, and his efficiency suffered his senior year.
Holloway will be Xavier's most productive player next year, and will finish highest in the POY balloting.

Envy like a dirty flame still blackens all that it can not reach. Xavier's lack of respect in the league and in much of the nation comes directly from the A10 offices.
Let's be realistic. Kevin Anderson couldn't carry Jordan Crawford's jock or anything else. Neither could the Wright kid from Dayton. But in its atempt to keep certain entities happy, (read Philadelphia and the east coast area, the league has more than once tried--and for the most part failed) to put Xavier back in its proper place.
Who gets the sh!ttiest referees for most of the crucial games? Even a game late in the season at Fordham whose lack of competitiveness has often been a laughing stock of the league and the nation, was one of the worst officiated games. Every effort was made to keep that team in the game bujt whe X turned up the defense the Rams reverted to form.
Why is Xavier playing Fordham twice in a season???Because there is a good chance Xavier might not make the tournament if it's RPI can be kept low by playing the crap team twice.
Why in Stan Burrell's senior year did Xavier not have one player on the first all-league team???
Why all the hoopla over Dayton, Dayton and Dayton whose coach I can damn near guarantee didn't vote for Crawford, nor St. Louis, now Richmond's guy and --Oh, hell this is a waste of my time. What it comes down to is Xavier is the Rodney Dangerfield of the A10. And it comes down to the same words of Tom Berenger in Major League, ""Looks like there's only one thing to do, win the whole f---ing thing.":D

Not to re-open old wounds, but Josh Duncan on the second team was a joke. Anyone who watched him grab big rebounds, hit huge shots, and seal games at the free-throw line knew he was one of the top 5 players in the A-10 that year. The fact that XU had such a balance of options detracted from his scoring stats, but he was XU's rock.

It'll either be Anderson, Chris Wright, or Lavoy Allen. In that order. Holloway will be outstanding, but the A10 coaches are sticklers, and unless Anderson has a truly bad year, Holloway won't even make first team all league. Not saying it's right, just saying that's how the A10 voting works.

Who are those guys? I don't see them as poll options.
I'm anxious to see who the A-10 coaches pick as the pre-season, if it's not Anderson. If it's Chris Wright, I'd imagine he'll hold a press conference.
