Per Goodman/FoxSports......
Duke, Purdue atop preseason Top 25
Now that the NCAA’s deadline to withdraw from the NBA draft has come and gone, it’s time to really get down to business and come up with a legitimate preseason Top 25.
This may change slightly before the season, but here’s my edition heading into the summer:
#19 Temple
#21 Richmond
20 MORE TO WATCH (in order of conference):
XAVIER, SAINT LOUIS, DAYTON

It's actually amusing now. They just never learn. It's like once May rolls around everyone forgets everything that's happened and resort back to nodding their heads and drinking the same old kool-aid. We'll be pre-season ranked at like 28 next year and then take down a nice OOC campaign before dominating the A10, and then everyone will start remembering again, and then start blowing us as if they'd known all along. I don't know why I even pay attention before the Sweet 16 anymore.
Edit: I don't want to come across as upset or that I care in even the least bit. I just find it to be quite amusing at this point and truly feel that our program is the most unique one around in terms of an accomplishment to respect/benefit-of-the-doubt ratio.

I swear to all things holy we could win the National Title and only lose our walk-ons and still not be ranked the following year.
It's amazing actually. Simply amazing.

How many years in a row do you have to make the Sweet 16 to get the benefit of the doubt???

When Goodman put out a message that he was working on his Top 25 I sent him a note suggesting that he not forget about X because they do it year in, year out. Well, he was warned, but he didn't pay attention. Oh well. I guess he'll look like the jackass at the end of the season. Of course isn't that the way it usually works with X? No early respect, lot of bandwagoners come March.
So this thread can go on for about 20 more pages.....I like starting the season unranked. That way we can sneak up on people.

Overall I like Goodman.
If I was Butler, I would not be too happy. I get the feeling that 25th was just to be nice.

Funny,
Gone-zaga #12....after losing Matt Bouldin.
Actually hilarious.....if it wasn't so pathetic.
Mark Few must send writers stream water spiked with hash in the offseason.

It really is laughable, and gets more so every year. Whatever, that will make it that much sweeter when we go into the Northwest and trounce them this year. I'll extend another keg bet to anyone who wants to tell me that Gonzaga will be ranked higher than 12 at the end of the year. I know I will win because Gonzaga is literally incapable of finishing higher than where they started, which is to say they are incapable of not being overrated.

We should take odds on when the first "Musketeers are hot down the stretch" or the "I Knew the Muskies Could do Damage" story comes out. My guess is about mid-February.

Per Katz/ESPN......
Defending champs are back at No. 1
The NCAA's deadline to withdraw from the NBA draft was pushed up five weeks from its usual spot in mid-June. Thus, so too was our post-deadline top 25.
This is what we know about the 2010-11 season: There won't be a truly great team.
Sound familiar? It was true last season.
And because of that, Duke has a chance to repeat as national champions. Not losing anyone early to the NBA draft after winning a national title is almost unheard of these days, unless you're Florida's 2006-07 team. So with Kyle Singler's decision to return to school, the Blue Devils will almost certainly start the season where they left off -- at No. 1.
As for conferences, the Big Ten should be loaded with highly competitive teams and at least two national title contenders in Purdue and Michigan State. The depth in the Big 12 shouldn't disappoint either, with two teams in my top 5 and another pair ranked in the teens. The Big East may lack top seeds, but will get its share of bids. The ACC doesn't have as much depth as usual. The SEC East may be the most competitive collection of teams of any group. The Pac-10 will be dominated by Washington and a group of nine others that will chase the Huskies. The Mountain West will be top-heavy again, with a very solid top four. And for a second straight season, the A-10 may have up to six contenders for NCAA bids.
There were tough choices here and as is always the case with such early rankings, there will be room to criticize. Wichita State is a Missouri Valley squad that could have made its way into the rankings. I also could have gone deeper in the ACC, and certainly the Big Ten. Northwestern should finally make the NCAA tournament for the first time ever and maybe even make cameos in the top 25.
There were plenty of other teams I considered for these rankings and plenty of worthy candidates were left off -- not everyone can be included. But feel free to flood that comment section with where you think I went wrong. Have at it …

Per Parrish/CBSSports.....
Top 25 (and one): A Spartan post-deadline approach
The deadline for underclassmen to withdraw from the NBA Draft passed over the weekend, at which point pretty much everybody in the business of ranking college basketball teams decided it was time to update their college basketball rankings, and most put Duke at No. 1.
But not me.
I'm sticking with Michigan State.
See for yourself in the latest Top 25 (and one) ...

Hopefully they release the '11-'12 preseason rankings soon. I hear Dayton is going to be great next year.

Per DeCourcy/Sporting News.....
With 2010-11 rosters set, Michigan State looks like top team
The natural reflex is to anoint reigning champion Duke as the No. 1 college basketball team for 2010-11.
This is a thinking person's exercise, though, not something to be done impulsively. Duke retains stars Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith from last season's champs and adds star freshman Kyrie Irving, but not since the UCLA dynasty has a team lost three starters and repeated as champion.
So it's not entirely out of line for Sporting News to opt, instead, for Michigan State and its deep roster of Final Four veterans.
"I think that takes an awful lot of guts," Big Ten Network analyst Tim Doyle said. "It's a team you know is going to have ups-and-downs, and their schedule is always so tough.
With a healthy Kalin Lucan, Michigan State is primed to get over the hump at the Final Four.
"But you'd think they'd mature because of all the adversity they went through in March."
With the NBA draft's early entrants set, we now know better the rosters for next season.
Here's our new preseason Top 25:
***No A-10 teams
