Stephenson Making Strides in Vegas
Andrew Moore has been working with Lance Stephenson every day for five weeks at the Impact Basketball Academy in Las Vegas.
And Moore says Stephenson is making great strides toward playing in the NBA.
“I think somebody’s going to like him. He’s an ultimate competitor,” Moore, a coach at Impact Basketball who has worked with Kevin Garnett, Danny Granger, Corey Maggette, Baron Davis and Al Harrington, said Monday by phone.

I'm wondering how differently he would have responded (if at all) if his student were not progressing fast enough to impress the NBA brass.
I think we've learned to take such stories with "a grain of salt." What's he going to say: "Man, I just wasted five days on that kid! He could have learned more working with that basketball genius at UC, Mick Cronin."

It really seems like 'Born Ready' wasn't born all that ready after all.
I thought this kid was a surefire lottery pick?

When I see stuff like this, I wonder how does Lance pay for all of this? Does his agent front him the money for airfare, hotel, and the training? What if Lance doesn't get drafted and ends up in NBDL or Europe? I guess the agent would get paid at some point. I'm just curious how this all works out.

For the last 35 days he has been working out in Las Vegas? Las Vegas sure is a long way away from UC's campus. So much for the student-athlete.
Not finishing your semester classes hurts your APR, correct?

You could say the same for Crawford and his frequent Los Angeles trips. Just sayin.

Some of these guys will loan kids an absurd about of money before they have even made a dollar. I believe that someone loaned Maurice Clarett a bunch of money that he was never able to repay. Someone else would probably know more about that than I do.

Ex Borecat Steve Logan was driving a Cadillac Escalade around Cleveburg before he was even drafted in the second round- an Escalade that his agent "arranged" for him. Then his idiot agent told him not to sign the original guaranteed contract that he was offered because they were "insulted" that there wasn't more money on the table after he was drafted in the second round by Golden State.
Uh, Steve Logan never got another offer, never got on a roster, and never played in the NBA. He did play a bit in the short-lived revived ABA and in Israel, Poland and Venezuela where Torraye Braggs has been playing. He's now 29 and jobless.
Also-Logan pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic violence stemming from a May 22, 2009 incident at an apartment in Maple Heights, OH. where he assaulted the mother of his child. He was fined $250. Right in line with your typical UC thug.
Nice decisions.

It should not. He withdrew from UC before the quarter started.

Yes, this has to go down as some of the worst advice given to a guy who I thought had a legit shot at playing in the NBA. Not that he would have been a star, but Logan had the talent to have a respectable career. He should have beat up this "agent" instead of his domestic partner.

It does seem that the NBA has a lot of seedy agents - overall they have to rank behind NFL and MLB player agents.
