Bengals close to signing Pacman?? Wow. Lewis has done a nice job getting some of these wayward men to toe the line, but is he a miracle worker?

Like I said in another thread, pure comedy.

Is corner not one of the strongest positions the Bengals have? Why do this?

No mention of playing safety. Is he an option there?

I looked for the same thing in the article.

This is another low risk prospect for the Bengals, much like Larry Johnson or Matt Jones. If Pac Man plays well, it is a bonus. If he messes up and runs afowl of the NFL conduct policy again, he will be cut and may never get another chance in the NFL again.

I don't know why people get worked up over this anymore. They are NFL players, who play a game for a living, that is meant to entertain us. I don't plan to hire Pac Man Jones to take my son to school every day, so why should I care if he made it rain in a strip club?

Is he in football shape? Can he return kick offs or punts? Can he play nickel or dime coverage? If the answers are "yes" to all of these questions, then take a flyer on the guy and see what he can do. If he can't beat out the other guys at his potential positions, he will be cut.

It's that simple.

I don't see anything wrong with this. We actually have depth and really no holes. Another playoff berth at least.

I agree with everything you've said. However, I don't take exception because of his off the field issues, my problem lies in the fact that we don't really need him. There is depth at the position and, as electric as he was as a return man, he wasn't an AMAZING corner. Why have to deal with the questions, media, and distractions for a guy who, in my opinion, is not that great. Although he had a phenomenal second season, he's struggled mightily to both stay in the league and preform at a high level when he is in the league. I just think he doesn't have anything to offer the Bengals. But, as you've said, if he turns out to be better than expected then he's been signed for next to nothing.

Also didn't he suffer a very serious neck-injury when he last played? Not sure about that fact though.

If the Bengals get to a point in the season where pacman is contributing a lot or they are relying on him to, they are in big trouble.

What I've read on the internet is that Jones would be competing with Ghee for the 3rd cornerback slot.

“Let me give you a statistic that many people don’t know. If you take away the incident that the kid had with his own security guard in Dallas, he behaved properly for three straight years. The year preceding him getting back into the game, that whole year (in 2008), and last year you didn’t hear no problems (when) he didn’t play football."

My favorite quote from the article. Wow, Deion, when a guy has all kinds of character/legal issues, everything counts. You can't just ignore little parts of the past to tell the story you want to and still have a valid point. That's like saying if you ignore the couple games Xavier lost during the middle of the season, we went undefeated this year.

Anyway, though, I just look at this situation and think that it's about time. That's the Bengals' identity - taking in all the guys that have a lot of talent but nobody else wants for whatever reason.

Exactly what people were saying about Andrew Taylor last offseason. By the end of this year most of the people I talked to were more comfortable with Andrew Taylor in the game than Kenny.

Ya, but we knew nothing about Andrew Taylor. I think most had never seen him play. I have seen Pacman play. He isnt good. Also not worth the trouble, especially since he plays a position that is really the Bengals strongest on defense.

The Bengals might be great at the top 2 spots at CB, but do we have a proven 3rd? The only reason this is such a big deal is because he had a run-in in the past. Why not give him a shot? Doesn't he seem like the best opportunity to give us a solid #3 corner. I highly doubt they are going to ask him to be anything more than that. If he screws up or busts, release him no strings attached.

Between David Jones, Morgan Trent and now this Ghee kid, the nickel back is taken care of. We know Jones will be forced into the rotation as a return guy, but maybe we can get some more use out of him as a safety? I know it's a little late to be changing his position, but if you put him in passing situations where the Bengals like to play cover-2, he doesn't need anything more than instinct to play safety.

He is an absolute midget. No way he can play safety.

Next the Bengals should sign JaMarcus Russell... :p

Just a thought. Besides, in a cover 2 scheme like I mentioned before, he doesn't need size. He will be nothing more than a center fielder. All he needs to do is play the ball and make sure no one gets past him.

I think the job of being a center fielder in football definitely requires size. It's hard to play the ball when it's a toss up and you are that short.
