For those of us who have relatives in Nashville, TN or have lived there, check www.tennessean.com and www.wsmv.com? you won't believe it.

I somehow made it back to Nashville today from Louisville. I think I prayed the entire drive down.

To which one of your heathen gods?

It's pretty nuts. I just went to the grocery store about 1 block from my apt and it was so packed because it's apparently the only one open. The Kroger I usually go to (because it's cheaper than the walking distance one) had 2 feet of water in its parking lot.

I know the Krogers on Old Hickory in Hermitage is open because my daughter went there today. And I'd bet the one on McGavock near Lebanon Rd is also open . It's awfully damned high up. :D

That's actually the nickname of the the ladder company in my firehouse, and no, I did not come up with it. There was one guy awhile back who sometimes called out "Release The Kraken!" when they got a run. It was funny the first 10 times I heard it, then it got old....

Here's to hoping everyone down in the flooded areas stay safe. It's crazy, people always misjudge the power of floods. Sadly, some pay for it with their lives when they try to cross flooded areas.

I HATE dayton.

I blame George Bush. First Katrina and now this. I hate his evil weather machine. He is doing this just to spite us.

From what I've seen, the Nashville airport recorded 13.5 inches of rain in a 48-hour period. That's already a record rainfall for the entire MONTH of May, let alone a 48-hour period. The Cumberland River is at least 10 feet over flood stage. I wonder how reminiscent this is to the flooding along the Ohio River back in 1997 - that's the closest comparison I can think of at this point.

Thoughts and prayers to our friends in Tennessee over the next few days.

Somehow my downtown office is open. I was really hoping for a 4 day weekend.

I have posted pictures of the flooding on facebook. Anyone know how to get them on here?

Also, there is word going around now that Nashville is out of water. A good part of downtown is without power. My apt and office just missed the downed power grid by 1 block.

This is one interesting situation.

I just heard that you are supposed to cut you usage in half. One of the water treatment plants is submerged and non-functional but the other works. I read one can process about 90 mil gallons a day and Nashville as a whole usually uses about 100 ml gallons.
