Per Louisville Courier-Journal...

Louisville to debut in new arena vs. Butler

The University of Louisville’s first game in its new home will be against Butler on Nov. 16.

U of L basketball coach Rick Pitino announced on Monday that the Cardinals will take on last season’s national runner-up.

Butler lost to Duke in the NCAA title game. Louisville’s downtown arena will be called the KFC Yum! Center.

The U of L women have scheduled their opener with traditional power Tennessee

Yum! to pay $13.5 million to name downtown arena

Louisville’s downtown arena will be called the KFC Yum! Center.

Yum! Brands, which once said it wasn’t interested in the naming rights, has agreed to a $13.5 million, 10-year contract to be the building’s main sponsor, the company and the Louisville Arena Authority announced Monday.

As part of the deal, the Louisville-based restaurant company will have seven concession areas for KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell inside the arena at Second and Main streets, as well as advertising inside and outside the building and the roof.

After eight years, Yum! Brands will have the option of renewing its sponsorship for an additional five years.

Wow, great job by Butler to schedule that game. I find it hard to believe that Louisville will lose their first game in the new arena but Butler has been proving me wrong lately.

I understand they are getting a ton of money for it, but KFC Yum! Center is not my favorite name. I'd be more amenable to just calling it the KFC Center or the Yum! Center.

I agree. The KFC Yum! Center just sounds bad. Doesn't flow at all. I like choosing one or the others, or even I think Yum Brands Center sounds better.

The KFC/Taco Bell/Pizza Hut/A&W/Long John Silver's YUM! Center would have been sweet.

I am continually disappointed that KFC/Taco Bell's don't offer delicious hybrid products. Popcorn chicken burrito? Yes please.

Louisville had this game posted on the site where you can see what games college teams are looking to fill. The posting said they would return the game the next year. Curious if X made any inquiries into setting something up.

How good would a Pizza Hut taco pizza be? Yum really needs to get on the stick.

I highly doubt Louisville would think Xavier is a high profile enough opponent to open up the new arena. And obviously Butler getting to the title game is what made them high profile enough. Yes, I am still bitter.

And it looks as though locals are going to take to calling the new arena "The Bucket."

Well, no. Otherwise I would not have written it. I live in the area about an 8 minute drive from where that arena is being built. Believe me, most people around here don't know much of anything about Xavier. And for the opening of this new state of the art arena, I can assure you the fans would expect a bigger opponent than our beloved Muskies.

Well, let's not kid ourselves. That's a nice little treat, but it's not what a Pizza Hut taco pizza could be if they combined forces wisely.

Given that I'm sure they wouldn't want to open against a Duke/UNC-caliber team, you'd think we'd be perfectly situated to open a stadium like that. I guess I assumed that college basketball fans in Louisville would have heard of the Musketeers before, given that we are a perennial Top 25 team and all.

Not to mention a little NCAA tournament loss against us not too long ago.

Duke was the originally rumored opponent. Since they couldn't get #1 they went with #2, I guess. Butler is going to be a lot better than UNC, too, if Hayward stays. Especially in November.

Louisville's women are actually opening the building against Tennessee if that gives you an idea of the types of opponents they were looking for.

What about a KFC Bowl in a wrap? Fried chicke, potatos and gravy, cheese and corn in a borrito? Yum!

Pizza Hut does have a taco pizza. You usually have to be at one of the stores in the south to find it. My opinion....fan freaking tastic.

I've got to think that one reason Butler was chosen is because Pitino loves to recruit the Indianapolis area. Getting his program in the national spotlight against the hometown tream and previous year's runner-up in his own building, then bringing them back to town the year after should really be a win-win for his program in that respect.

The Butler name carries a lot of weight right now and it'll be another chance for the Bulldogs to play the role of media darlings early in the year before everyone finds out they aren't very good without Hayward.:p The Cards will get the exposure right along with them.

What are you talking about? I thought this thread was about combining the elements of Pizza Hut, KFC, and Taco Bell...

haha well in that case I'm all for more pizza/taco/chicken combinations.

I'm already a big fan of the taco pizza, so crispy chicken pizza or pepperoni/sausage burritos might be welcome additons.
