Brian Gregory turned Boston College down?!?!?! He really must have realized he can do no better than constantly underachieving with Dayton. This is terrific news for us. I really thought BG might be gone and then Dayton could hire a decent, young coach like John Groce from Ohio U.

Go ahead BG, stay as long as you'd like.

Interesting. Maybe he realizes that he has reached his level of incompetence. Anything past that is just stupidity.

With Steve Donahue taking the BC job, their fans may be wondering why they went after Gregory in the first place.

Boston College is a crappy job. Gregory should hold out until Duke comes calling.

Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

And I thought the Q to women posters and Keeping a sense of humor threads were the funniest tonight.

Absolutely. Donahue isn't going to set the world on fire, but he definitely parlayed a successful 2 year run at Cornell into a nice paycheck. Sucks for Cornell, but good for Donahue. (he was at Cornell for 10 years!)

As for the midget. He's an idiot. His team underperformed big time this year, he loses a crapload of seniors (maybe Wright too) and he sticks around? He's been at dayton for 7 years now. Their fans are going to be unreasonable yet again, and he passes on an ACC job?

In the world of college basketball coaches, this is about as stupid as you can get. It now guarantees that he will be fired from dayton in the next two years. Wait and see.

I HATE dayton.

Oregon "turns its lonely eyes" to Dayton? I know they're getting desperate, but jeez ...

If Brian Gregory makes 750K at Dayton, what is Chris Mack worth?

I'd say 1.5 Mil at least.

Altman to Oregon. Done deal...at least for three days when he changes his mind and goes back to Omaha! I would think Oregon is in much better shape than the train wreck that is Arkansas so he may make it a full two weeks this time.

Sorry, didn't see the coaching change thread had already discussed.

i don't understand the interest in brian gregory....at all.

i don't think it's because of any sort of bias i have against dayton.....i don't think. i just don't see why this guy's name keeps popping up. what is it that he's done that is at all impressive??

bc gets rid of al skinner. maybe they should have and maybe they shouldn't have, but if they are going to replace him, it sure as hell better be with someone who's a better coach. since brian gregory arrived at ud...

-al skinner is 63-49 in big east/acc conferences. brian gregory is also 63-49....but in the atlantic ten. SLIGHT difference.

-al skinner has made one sweet sixteen, four second rounds, and five overall ncaa tournaments. gregory has made one second round, and two overall apperances.

i'm not seeing the upgrade here. if bc got rid of skinner because he was underperforming, why replace him with a guy who has done even less in the same timespan?? in addition to that, boston college had undergone three consecutive losing seasons prior to skinner's arrival, so he's definitley leaving the program in better shape than it was in when he arrived. dayton was an nit caliber program most of the time when gregory arrived. seven years later, they still are.

i get hiring donahue. i don't get why they would even consider gregory. i don't get why other prgrams would either. it seems as though you always hear his name mentioned. i just don't understand why. i think mike brice at robert morris or mike young at wofford or blaine taylor at old dominion would be better candidates than gregory. i'm not saying that for the sake of putting him down. i'm saying that because in my honest evaluation, i don't think he's done THAT well. he hasn't done poorly, but he doesn't jump off the page as someone who can significantly elevate the level of a program. ud really isn't any better now than they were when gregory got there. they were a program that made the ncaa some of the time, and the nit most of the time....and they still are. he's sustained that, but he hasn't built upon that in the seven seasons he's been there.

the mere suggestion that notre dame would look at brian gregory if mike brey were to resign is beyond mind boggling. scott drew?? yes. brad stevens?? yes. chris mooney?? perhaps. keving stallings?? perhaps. brian gregory?? not on your life. not for notre dame.

Same. Thanks for writing exactly what I was thinking.

As I've said time and again, I am hoping BG stays at ud forever. He's the Achilles Heel to any program getting better. If you've got talent, go to ud, you'll come out exactly the same as you entered. NO Improvement whatsoever.

BG didn't turn anything down. It is hard to turn down something that hasn't been offered to you. He keeps telling the DDN that he is turning down these schools so everyone thinks he is a hot commodity.

Actually it is genius. I am calling the Cincy Enquirer right now to tell them I turned down the Boston College job.
