Looks like Chris Wright of Dayton is going to test the waters, as well...

I honestly think Wright will come back to UD for one more year, however.

Wright had definite potential coming into Dayton, but he hasn't exactly developed the way he could've...

seems to be a pattern up there at the dump

He'll be back. He finally has a chance to play with a really good PG. Granted, Staten will only be a freshman, but he'll still be the best PG Wright has played with.

Which draft - NBA or WNBA?

Another Gregory product who has not progressed one bit since he walked onto UD's campus. It's really a shame because the kid has a ton of talent.

Well, look at Chris Johnson. He may have turned into their best weapon, but it seemed like Gregory never really realized that. For whatever reason, Gregory seemed content to let the offense revolve around a couple of average, at best, guards in Warren and Lowery. And, for a team that couldn't shoot, it seemed odd that Paul Williams was often a forgotten man. Looked like he was one of their better shooters (of course that's not saying too much on that team!).

Don't forget about Fabrezius. Gregory needs someone on his bench who can gameplan and manage a game. He has no feel for adjustments that need to be made. He can certainly recruit well, but after that, his coaching skills are not that great.

If I'm a UD fan, am I happy that they won the NIT or pissed that they wasted all that talent.

Chris Wright will be the #1 overall pick in the Dayton Preseason Draft.

Something tells me that's not how it will end up though.

Chris Wright already declared last year and came back - I don't think you're allowed to pull out of the draft twice. He may as well go ahead and hire an agent.

A little bit of both. I fully agree on Paul Williams. I think he could have been better used, and a lot of it had to do with BG not fully defining his role. PW even talked about being reluctant to stand out because he was only a sophomore. He was great throughout the NIT though. I think he steps up big his last two years.

As for Wright, he has to declare. As long as the rules allow you to declare and come back once, I think it's an experience every junior with even remote NBA hopes has to have. I can't imagine an NBA team telling him he's anything but a mid to late second rounder at best, so he should return to UD, but nothing bad can come from getting your feet wet.

Read the story about Wright entering the draft, then skimmed through the posts below it. Found this one particularly, um, amusing:

Since the Cavs GM(Danny Fairy-tale)is stupid enough to waste their 1st round pick on a toothpick from the Congo, and also waste 20 million dollars per yr. on an “old slowed down” Shaq, perhaps there is a wiser GM out there who realizes this rare “freak of an athlete” will soon enough hone his shooting skills, and take not a chance, but take a player who will more sooner than later develop into one helluva regular ESPN highlight reel. Many NBA players can’t shoot as good a CW anyway; and that is a FACT JACK.

I don't know about the village, but the Ghetto is definitely missing an idiot.

I thought Dayton fans are supposed to be so knowledgeable. Did this guy not follow the draft for the last say four years?

I was really impressed with Williams throughout the season and especially the NIT. What really impresses me is his defense. He along with Benson, and Chris Johnson will be major assets for the Flyers for years to come, no doubt.

So did Wright, Stephenson, and Crawford somehow coordinate this?

It's funny. All three boards have very concerned posters. They are worried that this decision will "ruin" the player's life

Heh. As I said on another said, Wright very well might not be drafted. But if his NBA stock is as high as it will ever be, it's probably a good move to make the jump.

That's the thing, Wright's stock has not peaked. His jumper is better, but still under the NBA par, and his ballhandling is pretty rough even in college. He would have a chance to make the right NBA roster next year, but if he comes back and takes his jumper and ballhandling to another level he would be a lock to be drafted next year, maybe even in the first round.

In reality, his stock was higher last year than now, because his game was still pretty raw. Now his game is better but more defined, meaning he's not a lump of clay for a team to mold (ala JJ Hickson two years ago). The line between project and prospect is thin, but the two sides are worlds apart. Wright is now a prospect, meaning his stock is more about what he is, not what he could be.

Wright did not declare last year.

I think Dayton's Chris Wright and Florida's Alex Tyus picked the wrong day to declare for the draft? More like wrong year.

From Chad Ford's twitter:

Chris Wright staying in the draft is about as likely as Jordan Crawford coming back to Xavier, in my opinion.
