SOURCES: RICHMOND'S MOONEY SIGNS EXTENSION

Richmond coach Chris Mooney is now officially out of the running for the Boston College job.

Mooney, who met with BC athletic director Gene DeFillipo earlier this week according to multiple sources, would not comment on withdrawing from the Eagles' open position but did confirm to FOXSports.com Friday night that he had signed a seven-year extension with the Spiders.

The other candidates to replace Al Skinner are former BC assistants Ed Cooley (Fairfield), who already interviewed, Bill Coen (Northeastern) and Cornell coach Steve Donahue.

Donahue has also interviewed, while Coen will talk to DeFillipo on Monday.

Nice.

I'm happy to see that.

Now that Linda Blutarsky was summarily dismissed, Bernadette McGlade making progress in straightening out the mess that was the A-10 TV deal and schools like F-m getting the message to invest in their programs, the last thing for this league's schools to do is keep their good coaches.

While we've slipped the gallows at Xavier numerous times, coaching stability is key to long term success. You can only get recruits if they think you'll be there for a while. Richmond keeping Mooney is a big plus.

The Midget staying at the dump is a huge plus too....

....You figure out for whom.

BC should hire Ed Cooley from Fairfield. He got Fairfield to a respectable level in the MAAC and nearly beat Siena for an NCAA spot, plus he is already heavily familiar with BC. He is the smart hire.

And Mooney staying in Richmond is the smart stay. I heard they had some stud to replace Gonzalvez (although I expect at least a temporary drop-off). If Mooney takes them deeper into the tournament than a first round appearance he will get much healthier offers.

I don't think Gregory will be at UD past Tuesday.

Cooley is the guy with patches of baldness in his hair right? Not hatin', jus sayin'.
