While this is the second year in a row that Tubby hasn't moved beyond the first round, I hope Minnesota fans realize that they're lucky to have him as their coach. Whenever I see him in interviews, it seems that he understands the big picture. I watched his press conference from yesterday and, again, I was impressed.
I think part of the reason his relationship with UK had to come to an end, despite his success, was that the UK faithful may not care about anything but wins and losses. That's why they love dirtbags like Pitino and Calipari. Those guys care about nothing but winning and money (oh, and bathroom sex). Tubby obviously wants to win, but I get the feeling he cares more about the kids than the W-L columns.
Any program should consider itself lucky when it has a guy like Tubby Smith. Luckily we have one of those guys at X, too.
