Fearsome as a part of the Fearsome Foursome with the Rams. Not so fearsome on Little House on the Prairie. He died of mesothelioma. Thanks to sleezy lawyers, I actually know what that is.

I loved it when he used to do color with Dick Enberg during NFL games. RIP Merlin.

I'm sure there will be quite a few displays from FTD at his funeral. I had to explain who he was to my co-workers.

The guy was a great football player and a great announcer as well. He was one of those guys who had a personality and demeanor that did not quite seem to fit the usual football mold. He was a class act.

A guy who reminded me a little of Merlin Olsen once did color commentary on the UC football radio broadcasts. His name is Jay Bachman and he played at UC and went on to play in the NFL with Green Bay and Denver. Both Jay and Merlin had very smooth deliveries, knew what they were talking about, and were very well-spoken. Jay now is in sales and lives in the Louisville area and has been out of broadcasting for decades (unfortunately).
Maybe q remembers Jay from his somewhat brief days in the Cincinnati sports radio media.

Definitely remember him doing Super Bowl XXIII with Dick Enberg (Bengals and 49ers); thoughts and prayers go out to his family now.
